Cancellation Buzz: More Bubble Shows - Without a Trace and Cold Case - Featured

| loading

EW is reporting that CBS has informed producers of long running shows Without a Trace and Cold Case that both programs are facing the possibility of cancellation come this May.

Without a Trace was a Top 10 show back in its heyday 3rd and 4th seasons, but currently in its 7th season and now on Tuesday nights has slipped.

Says the network: "They no longer have the type of ratings that justify the massive overhead."

That being said, both Case and Trace have averaged over 10 million viewers an episode this season which isn't exactly a failure (at least in my mind).

Both shows are rumored to be looking at ways to cut costs.

So...would you be upset if these shows sailed off into the sunset? Without a Trace was one of the few procedurals that I've actually ever watched with any regularity, so for that one especially, I'd be a little bummed.

They've both had good runs, and they'll be replaced with really similar fare.

So it's really no big loss in terms of content.

You can see how the economics of it make alot of sense. The combined cast saleries for a long running show end up in the millions. They hit the reset button, the audience switches to the new version, they payout much lower rates.

I like both shows but now I'm watching them just of habit. I don't find them as interesting as they were. If the creators find some nice way to end them I'll be ok with that.

I never really got into "Without a Trace," but I did enjoy "Cold Case." However, that being said, I think it's run its course. I've watched Lilly wander through failed relationship after another, Scotty as well (half-heartedly shipping the two until even that got old), and now I think they just need to let it rest. Even the cases are getting a bit repetative, and I'm finding myself just FF though most of it nowadays.

Cold Case is one of my all time favorite shows. I try to tune in every week to watch it, but if I'm going to miss it I always make sure I have a backup way to see it. I'd be so sad if it went off the air. :(

I too am a Cold Case fan (I'll only watch Without A Trace if nothing else is on - it's a good show, just not a MUST SEE for me.)

A lot of people say all these procedurals are the same, but I think Cold Case is at least a little different. The really old cases are my favourite - seeing how life was way back when, and this is probably the only mainstream show which has that.

I think it will be a great loss if this show is cancelled (and probably replaced with another CSI!)
