Supernatural Episode 20: 'The Rapture' Review - Featured

This week's episode of Supernatural provided insight of Castiel's vessel, Jimmy. Jimmy, a married man and father, was chosen by Castiel to be a vessel because of something hereditary in order to aid heaven in the battle of good and evil. It also showed how Jimmy was basically torn from his family because they believed he was having a mental breakdown, but in reality, he was doing God's work.

Normally, some of the episodes would be rather random for straying from the show's plot line, but this week's episode did not disappoint. It may have gone off on a tangent with delving into Jimmy's/Castiel's past, but it did a wonderful job portraying Sam's struggle with the demon blood addiction.

In an earlier episode, Criss Angel is a Douche Bag, it was revealed to us that Sam did not like a certain part of strengthening his powers with Ruby's help. In On the Head of a Pin, we learned, rather saw, Sam's hesitance to the training was the whole consumption of Ruby's blood. Well, more like drinking demon blood.

However, in tonight's episode, we witnessed Sam's incredible addiction to the power and the blood. Not only did we see the depths of this addiction, but Dean had seen firsthand, as well.

At the end of the episode, and the previews shown at the end, we were shown the withdrawals symptoms after Bobby and Dean had locked Sam up in order for him to detox everything out. Sam had hallucinations and physical inflictions that accompany any cold turkey detox.

Not only did we witness the detox, we also saw how everything built up between the brothers was finally released in a showdown much larger than the one in Sex and Violence. The brothers seem to finally be split both on different sides of the battle and by disowning each other.

As Sam believes he is fighting for good while using demonic powers with demon blood pumping through his veins and a need for power, we are shown that Dean will fight on heaven's side under the command of God.

Do we know for sure that Sam will take down Lillith? Will Sam be corrupted by the power and fight on hell's side? We certainly know that the final battle will be good versus evil, but will the final showdown be Sam versus Dean?
