Question and a little insight before watching the film.

| loading

So here's the question, I've never watch the Star Trek series (I know I'm not much of a cool guy... I mean I never really watched all the Star Wars movies either or Lord of the Rings I think but anyways), so do I need to know at least some basic background from the series to appreciate the movie? Or is the movie a condensed version of the whole series?

I think it's funny how they casted the guy from "Shaun of the Dead" and "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People", as well as the stoner Asian Harold, is this film supposed to be funny in some way?

The film is actually a prequel to the original series, so if you are not familiar with the franchise, you shouldn't be too lost watching the movie. The film has moments of comedy, but is not intended as an exclusively comedic film.

So this film shouldn't confuse a first time Star Trek watcher eh. Thanks for answering, now I can't wait to go watch it :)

You will probably hear the audience laugh at things that will not seem funny to you because they are added Star Trek in-jokes. However, you will enjoy it, most likely, as an awesome movie, even if you've never seen any Star Trek because it's mostly a reboot. If you can see it IMAX, it's worth the extra cost for the experience.
