Last night's 80s flashback episode, "Valley Girls" was also the set up for a potential Gossip Girl spinoff (sometimes titled the former, sometimes titled "Lily"), focusing on Lily's wild years in the 80s with her sister in the Valley.
While initially the buzz for this show was very strong and a pickup was likely, lately things have been cooling down.
However...after watching this episode, we thought we'd ask you your opinion! Based on last night's episode, did you see a potential show? Should Valley Girls/Lily/GG Spinoff get greenlit...would you watch?
Personally, while I found Brittany Snow well-cast (and I loved seeing Andrew McCarthy on TV yet again following the Lipstick Jungle ax...though he seems forever relegated to the "rich jerk" role)...I'm not sure I saw a whole show there. As many of you have pointed out, Lily is not exactly the most interesting or loved character on Gossip Girl as it is. A whole show about her...where she pretty much just acts like Serena in the 80s...I just don't know.
Of course, Josh Schwartz has clearly proven himself to be an incredibly talented guy between The O.C., Gossip Girl and Chuck, so perhaps if given some time and room to grow, the show could develop into something worth watching. What do you think? Yay or nay?

I kinda liked it, especially cause I love Brittany Snow <3..so I hope it gets picked up :D
I don't know how I feel about it yet, but I would definitely give it a chance. I just love that it is set in the 80's, the music will be amazing.
I'm not really fussed either way! but if they do make it, i will definately be watching it!
hmmm i would watch for sure but i dont know if lily's past is that interesting enough to make a show out of it... but i want to see what josh comes out with he is a genius!
I would watch. There is so much I want to see, marrying Serena's dad, meeting Rufus, her mum bribing her, her getting pregnant... It might only be enough material for about one season though. Also if the stopped making GG episodes because of it I would start a official protest about it ;)

I think there's plenty to play out that would be interesting and fun, but in this portion, I found myself not that excited already knowing a character's future (to present day, at least) when meeting them. For example knowing something would strike up leading to marriage and kids between Lily and the jerk she got in a fight with for her sister was cool, but not didn't feel compelling enough, but hey, maybe that'll change when/if the show gets started! I'll definitely give it a chance if it does make it, but I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't.
I think it would be interesting to see how Lily lived her life...
I hope it does get picked up, I would watch it hands down ! !
I would watch it too, I really liked it actually. And Brittany Snow is a good actress.

They have casted really great people, so I'll not be suprissed if it does better than gossip girl. <3 :D

I've got to say...despite my misgivings...the show looks promising. Loved this week's GG and I'll be unashamedly watching VGs too. :P
I dread all the fashion mistake I'm going to commit after watching it though...can anyone say 80's revival any louder?
it was cool, and does a have potential, although i think it would have been better to run it asan independant show rather that spin off. also i agree that lily is not exactly the most interesting character to base it round - but she does have the most well developed background. The one thing that would be annoying as a watcher would be hanging out till rufus comes into her life which i can't wait to see.
i totally would watch it! i think it's actually kinda interesting, and alot of interesting actors are in it.

I was really looking forward to this episode, and it didn't disappoint! I think that while on GG Lily isn't the most intriguing character, I really enjoyed the flashbacks.
I loved the cast that they had picked out, and I think that the series has a ton of potential. I'm definitely hoping this gets picked up.
I thought the flashbacks were cool, but to have a whole show dedicated to Lily...
I'm not so sure about it.
To be honest I didn't really enjoy it as much as the previous episode. I am not sure if i would watch an entire show just about Lily.... although she is one of my favorite characters, I think I am not that curious about her past as everyone else is. I really enjoyed the mysterious side to her more. Wish it could stay that way, only show us little things that is relevant to the GG story line.
I'll watch it just to see britney snow. I like her acting. and I think it would be neat to see how she gets through the rebellious phase, meets rufus, has a baby and still somehow ends up the glamorous lily we know from gossip girl.
I thought it was good and looked more interesting then a lot of what is on there now. They need to get rid of 90210!!!!!!
I loved that Serena's dad is "Psycho Derek" from One Tree Hill. I would watch the spin off series. It wasn't bad. Though I do have to say the the cars in the 80's are dreadful.
I think I won't be watching the Lily spinoff. I'm not interested in her past and "Valley girls" did not change it. I prefer GG...

omggggggggg!!! i heart britanny snow in VGs;she's like a blond version of blair at first n then turns into a serena!!!+ she makes a hot pair with that owen guy(who btw strikes me of jaoquin phoenix;})....have got 2 say that they've directed the spin off really goooddd...i mean the made "lily's life" interestin!!!..now only a genius could do that;)

I think it would be a brilliant summer show, worth watching, but as for a regular show I don't think would be enough story. We already knew how things ended, don't we? So just telling the gap woulb be ok for 1 season that can be show this summer. I'm curious and as me so others many fans, but since the story will cover a short amount of time, I wonder how it will lasts....
i would definetly watch it! it'll be nice to have a show set in a different time period and i rly think it'd help to learn more about lily and cece and why caroll never enters the picture...

When I initially heard there was to be a spin off, I was not all that excited. But after seeing this episode, I would totally watch it if they made one.

i'd watch ... especially cause i would want to know how lily ends up with van de woodsen and when and how she met rufus, etc...plus i love brittany snow and krysten ritter!!!
I thought that Valley Girls was great and I say bring on the spin-off. Brittany Snow was really good (not to mention hot), psycho Derek is Serena's dad, and I also heard Josh Schwartz wants to have young versions of the OC's Kirsten Cohen, Jimmy Cooper and Julie Cooper. I think this would be great, it would be like two shows in one and does anyone remember that Kirsten had an abortion when she was a teen without Jimmy ever finding out about it, I personally would love to see this.

I didn't MIND it, but I definitely don't think its so inspirational that is requires a spinoff, honestly.
As a Josh Schwartz super fan... i really thought Valley girls sucked. Totally uninteresting, super cheesy, ugly people.

no way, who wants to watch an 80's show?
wouldn't it be cool if they did make the spin off (remember Lily used to be a photographer, going on tour with the bands, like Rufus's. That's when they met and partly how Lily made her own fortune), they could run Gossip Girl the college years, and Valley Girls and then, the final episode ever would be graduating from college for GG, while, the night before, we'd see them (Little Serena and Blair) going off to high school on VG.(they could skip some years every season on VG) This way, GG as we've seen it now would just fill in that gap between the two shows, as if it were meant to be... 'totally cult'

I always wanted to know Lily's past, and the episode was great, I would watch it for sure! Love the 80's !
I liked the episode.
That had to be one of my favorite episodes, and i love Lily's character...i would love to find out her story.
i think they should do it. i think they should only do a few episodes of it. i think people would watch a few episodes only. not different seasons.
