"Star Trek" is Highest Grossing Film of 2009 (For Now)

At this point in the year, JJ Abram's "Star Trek" is the highest-grossing movie of 2009, surpassing previous record holder "Monsters vs Aliens," which opened a month and a half earlier.


As of May 27th, "Star Trek" has brought in $194.8 million domestically, compared with $194 million by "Monsters." "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is in third place with $166.4 million.


"Trek" is likely to get some competition from the "Night at the Museum" sequel, which opened to $77 million last weekend. And "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" are yet to be released.
