The_Tron Send a Compliment at 13:04 PDT, 23 June, 2009I love it when Seth decides to try and insult far better shows (how I met your mother) on family guy, because not only does it demonstrate his immaturity but it also only proves the point that family guy is a pretty bad show and thus hurts it's own reputation in the process. Maybe if he went back to his roots of directly ripping off bits from shows like "The Simpsons" and "Drawn Together" I would only hate him for his lack of creativity as opposed to his jealous insults directed at those more talented than himself.

Yeah, you're totally missing the point (and genius!) of Family Guy. I, too, love some of the shows that they rip on (like HIMYM, though I haven't seen the episode to which you're referring), but I love that FG plays on pop culture references, some of them obscure, some of them not. Being able to laugh at yourself is a good thing, and it's not always a bad thing to be teased, as long as it's all in fun. FG isn't always "insulting" the things it jokes about, it's merely creating an amusing commentary about life and entertainment.... although, yes, sometimes it is flat out insulting stuff. And some things deserve to be insulted.
Okay, went and watched that Fam Guy episode... you DO realize that Jason Segal, Josh Radnor and NPH of HIMYM actually went on the show and recorded the voices for that scene, right? I think they've actually done that a couple of times. So... if they aren't insulted, and actually appear to be amused by it, wanting to do it, how can you be so insulted on the HIMYM teasing? If you don't like the sho, fine, but it seems silly to be pissed about it ripping on a show where the actual actors are IN on the joke.
in what perceivable universe is family guy a rip off of drawn together?! yes, they are very similar, but i might add that family guy premiered short five years prior to drawn together and are thus the sole pioneer of what i like to call "family guy humor".
Let me elaborate: "family guy humor" consists purely of randomness. be it in story telling (i.e. brain-damaged horse leads peter to become gay), or in the jokes (i.e. "shoving buddies", "cross-armed opposites" and of course "slowly rotating black guy" in an episode playing in 1670, or 1760).
to conclude: don't like it? don't watch it! stop moaning about people who do and enjoy it!
btw, how great was the last family guy episode!

Family Guy doesn't have to be a good show, it's a cartoon, it's purely for laughter not profound thought provoking converstations.

i think everyone is really missing the point on this one... what family guy was making fun of what the cross-promotion that fox and ALL other networks do. (I work for an un-disclosed network and my job is to MAKE those). They are called Violators. This is because the violate your space. To us and most everyone they can be quite annoying and obtrusive as more and more networks continue to create ones that all sort of look the same. Rotoscope'd people from the show bumping around running into eachother smiling and laughing. Not just promo copy appearing for a few seconds and going away. so ACTUALLY - family guy hit on a great "industry" joke, as these things are getting very very generic for all networks and all shows, templated almost.
okay, just here to clear that up..rest of u can fight over its a good show or not. but i say yes.
Seriously if you actually watch the commentary Seth the creator of fg says they came in and that they enjoy it oh yeah fg does not rip off Simpsons for one when on the simpsons. for one have you seen a talking dog or baby and fg has different humor and is not just the same crap over over again i once like simpsons but lately they haven't been doing so well and the last good thing they made was there movie that was okay but god how long does it take to make a fucking cartoon movie they took 7 years i mean 7 years if i had that kind of staff i would of probably done it in 4 or less the only reason i say that long is because they still had to make episode while they were doing it but i mean come on you could of taken a break to work on the movie and come up with maybe some new material and characters. Oh yeah and drawn together just plain sucks like why the fuck would you make show like that it sucks so much oh my god i would rather watch grass grow or just hit a wall or something. oh and i like himym too but wow 1 or 2 jokes doesn't mean they hate it or anything it just funny so if you don't like it then don't watch it oh yeah as you can tell by the name this is my all time fav show
