Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello just confirmed that Hilary Duff will be joining Gossip Girl for a multi-episode arc beginning October 5.
The former tween star and pop singer will play "Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at NYU in search of a traditional college experience."
Well, if there's one thing she won't be getting with the crew on Gossip Girl, it's "traditional."
Quips Ausiello, "She ends up rooming with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) so it's safe to say she'll be majoring in Drama!"
He also reports that Gossip Girl producers approached Duff about the role after learning that NBC had passed on her comedy pilot, Barely Legal.
The show just started filming for the fall, and it looks like Season 3 will be CW-star-studded indeed, what with Privileged star Joanna Garcia also joining the ranks of Manhattan's college elite.

That's great news!... She could really use the acting lessons.
I hope she learns to act... and I pray they don't allow her music anywhere near the show.
I'm looking forward to seeing her on the show. Were around the same age and I used to love lizzie maguire although I never got around to becoming a fan of her music. She always seems down to earth in her interviews so I like her. Maybe because I don't hate on people.
what role is joanna garcia going to have in the show?
she will be nate's new girlfriend
that's disturbing. maybe she can learn to act. i really hope she never sings. or really does anything.
