Wizard Wars: SideReel's Magical Battle Begins! Vote in Round 1

Harry Potter fans all over the world are starting to hum that magical, mysterious tune that sends a tingle of excitement down our wizard-lovin' spines.

Yes, it is finally almost time... for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!! (Insert your Muggley cheers here.)

So in honor of the down-right thrilling 6th movie premiere coming up Wednesday, July 15th, it's time to have a some wizardly fun!

Believe it or not, Harry Potter and his friends and enemies were not the first wizards and witches to enter the entertainment world, so we want to know - if Harry Potter were to battle Merlin, who would win? If Voldemort were to battle the Wicked Witch of the West or Willow of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who would end up victorious?

So, to get started, we want your nominations of all your favorite wizards and witches from TV and movies, past and present, including all your favorite Harry Potter wizards and witches as well. Those nominated will be pitted against each other in the ultimate Wizard Wars and from your votes, one witch or wizard will be the ultimate wizardy winner of them all!

Nominations will be accepted Wednesday 7/8 - Tuesday 7/14, then the Wizard Wars will be held Wednesday 7/15 through the weekend. Gaze into your crystal ball and choose any and all of your favorites and nominate them in the comments below!

With "Hedwig's Theme" playing pompously in the background, I would like be the first to officially nominate Harry James Potter to the ballot. [Applause...]

I'll let someone else list every Hogwarts character in books 1-7.

Dark Willow would pwn all of them, then destroy the world. Merlin is a close second, followed by Harry. Sorry HP, I love you too, but you just aren't as badass as Willow when she's being evil, and Merlin has longevity.

white witch vs voldemort? hmmm....who do you think would win this battle of evil? i might just side with the white witch. i think my favorite wizard right now is a tie between glinda the good witch of the south and alex russo of waverly place (she is so wonderfully snarky, i love it).

I have to say that I think Gandalf would win, because unlike Merlin and Harry Potter and Voldemort, Gandalf is a mover. He get's other people involved in a big way. The others depend on magic (and I guess in a few cases, they depend on a bit of logic too) but Gandalf rarely uses Magic and still he manages to get the job done in a way only he can. I think Dark Willow might give him a run for his money though.. because... she's just so damned cool, but in the end, I don't think she could stand up to Gandalf who always seems able to remove the evil from the hearts of those who shouldn't be so nasty. and I'm sorry to all those Harry Potter fans.. I used to be one of you... but really, the series just went downhill after the third book. Rowling must have gone to a writer's workshop or something because all the originality of her writing suddenly evaporated and was replaced by the standard linear plot-lines that everbody else writes. All she had going for her were a bunch of good characters that she created in the first three books before she lost her spark.

Well lots of people are nominating dark willow who I think would win overall, but here are a few other ones that might be interesting to see how they stack up:

-"good" willow, ether the more powerful, but unknown one from the Buffy finally or pre-Tara's death where we know her better.

-Richard Rahl, (from the sword of truth books, the TV show hasn't made him a wizard yet but he becomes pretty powerful in the books.)

    -Caleb from The Covenent

-Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist

I'll also second these who have been mentioned once in this thread already:

    -sabrina(sabrina the teenage witch)

    -samantha(from bewitched)

    -Darken Rahl(the Sword of truth)

he is the progedy son who can go to either good or evil and on both sides he kicked ass!

    200% wyatt halliwell.

and can i just say harry potter isnt even powerful, like snape said hes an average wizard who gets by with luck and the help of his friends. which is true throughout the book. Even in the final battle it wasnt his power that killed voldemort it was voldemorts backfire spell.

naduu Ill agree with you that harry got by through alot of things mainly on luck and the help of his friends but your wrong on saying that harry was not powerful. He was able to master alot of spells in a short amount of time and as for the final battle harry won that fight not only cause riddles spell backfired but because harry was more knowledgeable in wandlore and knew he was going to be able to win that duel cause the elder wand would not work properly for riddle cause he was not the rightful owner of the wand.

Wicked witch of the east, the original owner of the silver/ruby slippers, and damn terrifying according to the munchins.

Also, I have to point it out, I'm sorry. The wizard of oz wasn't a wizard, he was a wayward carnival worker... Sorry to be a bother but it's true.

And Elphaba is the wicked witch of the west.. just in wicked she's younger. Just wanted to clairify just in case this gets put up as one of those things they did with the vampires. It wouldn't be fair to have Elphaba on there twice or people who aren't real wizards making the cut.

reply to naduu im not trying to start an argument i like are little debate type thing here. I dont get how you think i proved your point and i dont know how you came to that conclusion if riddle would have used his own wand he would have won the final battle. riddles wand physically could not beat harrys mainly because of the twin cores if you remember. and harry already beat riddles wand in the graveyard when they caused prior incaturtum(sorry cant remember how to spell it). olivader told harry you dont need to kill someone to change a wands allegiance. now i dont know if riddles wand changed allegiance in that duel cause it was never discussed any further than that but riddle knew his wand could not beat harrys that is why he borrowed malfoys wand the night of the big mid-air battle in the 7th book. if you remembered again harry faced off against riddle and not only won again(as you put it against a much more powerful wizard) but he shattered malfoys wand.

now im not trying to sit here and declare that harry is the most powerful wizard on the list. i just want people to realize its un fair to line harry up against names like merlin and dumbledore. you have to think how many years do they have on the kid when it comes to magic. and by the end of the book he was only 17. and he only had 6-7 years of magic school and being exposed to the world of wizadry. in the little time he had to learn magic i think he did one heck of a job what with takeing on a adult teacher at 11,killing a bascalis and giant spiders at 12,taking on dementor at 13,all he did in the triwizard tourny and face riddle at 14,death eater-riddle again-evil teacher(cause we all have been there) at 15,16 was a calm year compared to the others, then at 17 he raided the highly secured ministry-evaded death eaters again-robbed a highly secure bank-all the stuff at the school for final battle-may or may not have died by riddle in the forest-then killed riddle. come on now. give credit where credit is do. not many people on that list has even been through 6-7 consecutive years like that.

remember harry is only 17, think how powerful he'll be at 18(hahaha harry potter joke)

when it comes down to it, it does not necessarily mean the stronger person will win, it just might be something the other person doesn't know or realize.(that and who ever the writer wants to win)

o and to add to that hermione was smarter than harry in everything but she still could not win a fight aginst him. and as to the one on one teachings. that does not matter cause when it came to the def. and atk. in dueling he was usually better than everyone in his year anyway the only time he really had one on one traning was when he was learning to produce a patronuce charm.

merlin, witches #1,2,3 and hecate from macbeth, gandolf (the grey, and white), dumbledore, hagrid, prof. magonigal, H.P., Hermione, Fred and George(of course). Now Ron may be a bit slow but he is clever, so he needs to be nominated for sure.

I'd like to add two comic book wizards:

Victor von Doom (various Marvel comics)

    John Constantine (Hellblazer)

Both also appeared in movies ("Fantastic 4" and "Constantine"), albeit in both cases very different from their comic book depiction. If possible, take the comic book version and not the movie ones.

LmAo, do u really think anyone could beat gandolf the white, he smacked down the belrock well free falling as Grey.. Harry flies on a broom, charmed is like a soap..

Dark Willow would be the only one who could have any chance against Gandolf. But Saraun cannot be killed my magic, only by losing the ring so he is the strongest

Someone chose Gandolf and they dont know his name, LmAo.

sorry to burst the bubble of all you harry potter fans out there but harry is an extremely ordinary wizard... he is only "extraordinary" when he faces voldemort due to the fragment of voldemort's soul that lies inside of him. but i would day the top 5 wizards for me are..

    Dumbledore

    Voldemort

    Wyatt

    Gandalf

    Merlin

... not in that particular order

If we could use books, it would definitely be Richard Rahl.

But I would say, from TV/Movies, definitely Christian God from the Old Testament in The Passion or any other religious movie. since he created everything.

Or Colin MacLeod from Highlander: The Source after he wins the source by not knilling the guardian guy. That was the biggest peice of shit ever, other than Christianity.

****SPOILER ALERT**** Dumbledore touches Harry in the upcumming 10th book, and Harry's only complaint is that the knots aren't tight enough. He's a little more "mature" by then, if you know what i mean. <<SNARK LMAO ROFL JK JK LOL LOL LJSDHDSJSJKS>>

ok this thing has gotten crazy, would you all stop nominating the same person twice. we have people on here trying to nominate the same people twice so they can get two spots. when you nominate gandulf the white and gandulf the grey, their not two seperate people gandulf the white and grey are the same person so if you going to throw his name in their just say GANDULF and leave it at that. just cause you add a color to the end of his name does not make him more special.

And please people stop nominating people with supernatural powers that are not witches and wizards or at the very least sorcerers. jedis' are not wizards nor are vampires or house elves or religious figures.if i see jesus thrown on here im going to cyber space slap somebody
