The Half-Blood Prince is the king of the box office.
The sixth installment of the boy-wizard flicks, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, hauled in a record worldwide total of $104 million in its first day of release to post the best start ever for the franchise. The film grossed $58.2 million domestically and $45.9 million overseas on Wednesday, Variety reports.
Half-Blood Prince started strong out of the gate: It raked in $22.2 million in midnight screenings on Wednesday, eclipsing the previous tally set by last summer's The Dark Knight. The latest Potter film's $58.2 million one-day total is also the fourth largest behind The Dark Knight ($67.1 million), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($62 million) and Spider-Man 3 ($59.8 million).
The previous Potter film, 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, also opened on a Wednesday to the tune of $44.2 million.
