its like they were trying for another season
the 2 of them get screwed over the devil wins and heaven is happy about it and wanted the devil to win What a load of crap
i don't normally question show endings but this one i have to call shenanigans

I think it was maybe just a bail out because the show was losing its rating's fast because it was kind of written into a dead end from the start. Hence why they pulled out the whole " No one knows why, heaven work's in mysterious way's ending" I guess they felt it would be a safe way to end the series because the phrase is kind of an exit strategy for many religious questions that is never questioned further after.
I was actually pretty happy they didn't try and send it out on a big ending that didn't work out at all though so yeah... its a bit lousy but hey... it worked.
1. The show had a better premise than plenty of other shows
2. It lost ratings due to be paired against American Idol, not due to be a bad show - Infact it was a great show
3. Ending was left open because they were trying to get another season from CW - So they didn't write it entirely as a series ender.
