MTV announced Monday that they will be developing a US-version of the popular British series Skins.
The question is...will it be the next The Office (success!) or the next Coupling (failure) in terms of a British-to-US show adaptation.
Skins follows a group of teenagers - and uniquely casts unknown actors and employs young, inexperienced writers. It is also known for its nudity, language, and drug use - most of which probably cannot be shown on MTV.
However, an MTV VP of Series Development promises that they will "preserve the authenticity of the British version" and will "not water it down too much", though it is true that "MTV's version will not show nudity and will not use a certain few four-letter words."
So what say you? Are you excited for the US version of Skins or is this a disaster in the making?

I really dont think this will translate well into an american show. In the UK it hit at a niche in the market that no one had hit before but in the US there are multiple shows about teenagers in all walks of life from friday night lights to 90210
Prudes.. leave the show as is. either show it, or dont.
This has disaster written all over it! Please do not ruin Skins. Especially MTV. If its bluntness can be preserved do so. A network like Showtime would be better!!
I don't understand why people are always making American versions of British things. It's so annoying, like how they translated some of the Harry Potter books from UK english into US english. I don't think they should make a new show especially without the nudity and cuss words because thats an important part of the show. They should just show the original on MTV or american television should drop all of it's stupid laws about teenage stuff. Grr.
