Who Should Be Cast as 'The Mother' for HIMYM?

| loading

Now that they are getting more involved in 'The Mother' plot of the show, they are actually going to need to cast the role. This got me thinking, who do I want to see cast for the pivotal role? After all of the seasons and episodes, going from Robin, to Stella, if the actress they cast to be the mother doesn't deliver it could leave the ending of the show rather flat. So who do you think the producers of HIMYM should cast for the role of the mother? Here are a few choices that I think could potentially do the job, and a couple thrown in there just as outside possibilities.

Shiri Appleby - This is actually my vote for who they should cast for the role. She is the girl from Roswell, and the recently not picked up To Love and Die. She seems like a perfect casting choice in my opinion.

Rachel Bilson -She is already cast for the 100th episode of the show so she seems like a possible candidate. Plus the fact that she is a brunette fits with the kids.

Cobie Smulders - Unlikely, but I know some people still hold out hope that she will eventually be the mother.

Sarah Chalke - Another unlikely choice but possible as she already has a character in the show, and the producers have already said how much they love her and want to see her character pop up in the future.

Olivia Thirlby - Currently working on the Jason Schwartzman show Bored to Death, and was Juno Mcguff's best friend in the movie Juno, she is another actress that I could see playing the role well.

Who do you think would make a good mother character for HIMYM, it doesn't have to only be the ones from this list

I don't think they can cast for this role until the close of the series. I think the whole point is he never gets to who the mother actually is...Personally, I doubt she will actually be a character on the show...more of a guest on the final episode...just my two cents.

That could be true, but the producers have actually stated that finding out who the mother is does not mean the end of the show, you could find out who the mother is then continue through their relationship and add her as a regular to the cast.

I just came up with the funniest thought, she could end up being the female version of him and it could end uo being HOW I MET YOU FATHER LoL.... yes i know it sounds stupid

When they had the Stella storyline, Ted told the story all the way up to the wedding. I think that whomever they cast, the story will go all the way to the "I Do's". Casting the mother won't be the end of the story, their wedding will be.

Whoever it is, will give a clue as she'll introduce herself as being in the economics class that Ted thought was architure 1.01. Robin or Stella were not in that class. They do not take economics. I think. From your list ak10 I'd like it to be Shiri Appleby. I'd love it to be some unknown actress who will make a name for herself instantly as being 'the Mother' for years to come in any other role she takes. Kinda like Luke Skywalker syndrome for Mark Hamill.

I thought about that too, but I think a unkonwn actress might get overshadowed by the group if they go that route. Remember, they are most likely going to go past the point that ted meets the mother and continue with the mother character as a regular, which means she'll not only have to hold her own, but actually add something to the show, so I dont know if an unknown actress will be able to do that. The role may need to have the cache of a known actess becoming a regular on HIMYM.

Well it wouldnt be Cobie Smulders because going back to the pilot episode of season 1, she was decalaired "Aunt Robin".

I seem to remember an episode where Robin's sister made an appearence.....

Steven: Ted's kids call all the other HIMYM characters "aunt" and uncle" (Aunt Lily, Uncle Marshall, etc), so the "Aunt Robin" reference doesn't mean anything, necessarily.

No one offhand comes to mind that I'd live to see in that role, though I'll go with Olivia Thirlby. I love her, and that girl can hold her own as a hilarious HIMYM character.

if you think "aunt robin" statement just end it up with cobie than your wronge

it has been know that ted said stuff that wasnt true : when he said in episode 6 in season 4 that stella and her boyfriend is the perfect ending for a perfect love story he lied sins in episode 23 in the same season her boyfriend broke up with her

so ted can go all like: "and kids the girl who stand there i knew she was the one and that was robin" and than explain how they didnt realize that they'r aunt robin is acully realy is his sister.....
