I'll be honest, I wasn't exactly thrilled when I discovered that this, the fifth episode of the ninth season, would be Olivercentric. After the awful episode with him and Tess last season, and with me quite frankly finding him uninteresting, I couldn't help but feel unenthusiastic. However, after making Oliver uber-depressed and not himself I suppose there had to be some fall out...
This to me, didn't even feel like a Smallville episode. There was no real plot, and we were just supposed to follow Oliver blindly chasing some mysterious 'game player'. In fact, it all seemed a bit silly to me. Also, I personally think the whole locked in a coffin scenario has been done to death, both in movies and TV, and that maybe they should have been a tad more creative there. Don't get me wrong, I like Oliver, at least the Oliver of previous seasons. But after killing Lex (which I am still not thrilled about the writers doing) he did just become the arrogant and overspoiled billionaire. So I suppose I should be happy that we now have him hopefully back to his former self.
I was quite suprised to see that Tess didn't make an appearance. And I am kind of glad. Lois always seems to lift an episode, whether it be through her hilarity or just plain sassiness. I much preferred seeing her reach out to Ollie, plus it seemed so much more sincere. I wasn't exactly shocked to see Chloe was behind the whole thing either. She has very much changed her tactics this season. While the Chloe were used to would probably have been much more absolute and cautious in her actions, like Clark, this season she seems much more independent, often ignoring his advice and opinions. She did take a risk trying to bring him back, but sometimes risks are necessary. Clark, apart from his many encounters with kryptonite, is essentially invincible. So for him to even contemplate the concept of risk is extremely difficult. So it is good in a way that Chloe is willing to go that extra step, even if he won't.
Overall, this wasn't the best episode. I think that perhaps it was spoiled by how much I have been enjoying this season. And so it stood alone, as worse than expected. Story arc wise, at least Clark and Chloe are finally aware that theres hundred of kryptonians on earth. I'm sure we'll see more on that next week. And please do better!

OK EVERYONE LEX IS NOT DEAD. i read an article recently about one of the producers having dinner with Mr. Rosenbaum ( lex). theres rumors that he may come back for the final episode or final season,,, something like that. but hes not dead hes just in hiding
Obviously he isnt dead, Lex Luthor is a main character in the Superman Mythogoly, they are not going to kill him off before Clark even becomes Superman, that would be changing the overall story way too much to be taken seriously. They obviously had to get Oliver out of his depression/suicidial state he was in, so this type of episode was needed. I didnt really mind it too much, not the best smallville episode, but at least this finally puts that storyline to rest and they could do somemore Justice League type stuff. I just really hope they are not trying to revisit a Lois/Oliver relationship. It seems liked they sort of reopened that door at the end of the episode. I would not be happy if they were trying to build a Clark/Lois/Oliver triangle. I agree, this season has been most enjoyable, hopefully they can keep that going, the Chole and Clark finding out there are most kryptonians on earth was a good storyline to start to move this season forward.
The entire episode was a blatant rip-off of a Michael Douglas movie, called The Game (which I'm kind of dumb-founded that nobody mentioned). An amazing movie reduced due to a 40 minute mediocre homage. Unfortunately, this is sure to be the first of many Oliver-centric stories especially with the addition of the Green Arrow's new sidekick in an upcoming episode. I hope they get back to the Kandoran storyline. I find it far more interesting, and Callum Blue is doing an amazing job as Zod.
i was excited about Roulette being on this episode and that is about it. She is so hardcore in the comics, but was a bit lame in this portrayal. Did anyone else ponder the idea of an Ollie/Chloe romantic storyline? Eh, i rather Dinah and Ollie start their rendevouz but hey, u never know!

I'm sorry but did the OP say this episode had no real plot? I stopped reading the post when I reached that sentence, for fear of more BS spewed over my screen.
Maybe some people don't see the purpose of an episode ending a story-arc that began at the beginning of the season and has endured until now, being concluded. The "plot" of this episode was to finish Oliver's downfall story-arc. I figured we all knew that after watching it, but, whatever.
This was the worst episode ever!. Bad writing, Bad acting, Bad everything.
That opening sequence made me sick, the women playing roulette was terrible and the sickening overuse of gambling metaphors throughout was laughable.
Smallville is slowly becoming a bad turd that won't flush.
They need some actually Superman/DC fans on the writing team because are slowly killing this program.
You know JamesG there are ways of articulating without being so rude. The plot of of this episode was extremely poor. I didn't criticize any story arc that may have been concluded in this episode. You'd know that if you had not been so pretentious and finished reading the review. Also, the whole point of a review is to show your opinion, and everything I am saying is just my point of view. If you actually read the review and disagree, then fair enough tell me. But please do so in a non-offensive way.
