Ghost in the Shell Movie Gets Bionic New Writer

| loading

Remember way back when Ghost in the Shell was reportedly supposed to get some sort of live action remake? Sure it would've been cool but was someone really going to get somewhere with this one? It's not quite a reality yet but Dreamworks has moved one step closer. Laeta Kalogridis is the new writer assigned to the project of adapting the series into a script.

Honestly, that's not a name that rang a bell for me so I looked him up. The good news is that he has a history with dark series or sci-fi on television. He served as writer and executive producer of the TV series Bionic Woman (2007) and Birds of Prey (2002) though I think it's best if we ignore the fact that both of those series were canceled after one season. Most recently he served as executive producer for an upcoming Scorsese film titled Shutter Island and was hired to write the Battle Angel script for James Cameron. Quick aside, that project is now listed in pre-production which I hadn't noticed before.

So, it does seem like this movie is actually making progress. 2011 is already looking like it's going to be a huge year for anime movies and so adding Ghost in the Shell probably won't hurt anything that much.
