A new take on the cloning thriller
New Line has nabbed remake rights to the film from the jaws of Universal (not the actual Jaws â they donât send sharks to business deals. Or do they?) by offering the services of Ratner.
The storyâs based on Ira Levinâs novel and is a tale of Nazis in South America trying to bring back the Third Reich via cloning. Brazilâs first attempt had Gregory Peck as Dr Josef Mengele, the evil genius behind the plan.
"The original was a flawed film with a brilliant concept," Ratner told Variety. "You no longer have to spend time explaining cloning as you did then." We donât know who heâll cast as the villain, but rumour has it Chris Tucker might be free. Kidding! We hope.
