Dexter stunt went wrong. (mild spoilers)

| loading

The National Enquirer reports in this weeks issue that actor Jimmy Smits, who plays district attorney Miguel Prado, stabbed an actor in the chest several times during a scene in which he accidentally picked up a real knife that was inexplicably put right next to a fake prop knife on set. Smits stabbed actor Jeff Chase in the chest with a knife he assumed was a prop. He easily could have killed him, but as luck had it Chase was wearing a chest plate, which saved his life.

"During a horrific execution scene with actor Jeff Chase, Smits was so into the part he kept stabbing Chase ferociously with what he thought was a fake knife," a shaken eyewitness told the Enquirer.

. yeah, that must be really scary for both. I can't understand how this knife "inexplicably" appeared.

Do you remember Brandon Lee? Inexplicable too ...

That sucks for both guys, the one gets nearly killed and the other nearly almost kills a person, imagine if they hadn't been lucky.

In regards to inexplicable knife placing: its totally legit to have a real knife amongst a prop knife, adds to legitimacy of the prop. Problem here was communication. Prop crew definitely should announce potential dangers to cast and crew alike.

I had something like this occur, I was directing a high school play (a little lesser scale then a television production i suppose haha) and i had told my props crew to get a bebe gun and a bunch of cap guns to be used in a hunting scene. The bebe gun was to be used to knock down cans in practice, and the cap guns for shooting at each other. throw in a little miss communication, and one of my acotrs got shot in the eye with a bebe. he was fine after about 20 minutes, but still pretty unlucky none the less.
