Surprise of the Week: Kath and Kim Gets a Full Season

| loading

Actually, I'd call this the surprise of the TV season.

NBC has given Kath and Kim full season order, picking up the show for its back 9 episodes.

The show - starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair - has been universally panned by critics and is by no means a ratings success; it averages 6 million viewers. The network claims to have "incredible confidence" in the show and views it as a fit with their Thursday night comedy block.

Frankly, I'm baffled by this decision. Furthermore, I imagine many of you are too, as we ran a poll this week asking which would be the next TV show cancellation and Kath and Kim actually received the most votes.

Seriously, what is going through Ben Silverman's mind?

Wow! Maybe I'll give it another chance, but I'm thinking even if it has certain groups of viewers enjoying it, it still doesn't have sustaining power. I guess we'll see!

    hahaha. WOW.

I am from Australia ( where this show originated from) , and WOW. For it to be picked up in the US for a full season that is really the biggest surprise! It isn't as good in the US as it is here ( mainly because . By all means it shouldn't have gone past the 1st episode... but alas... you guys have a full season of it.

And btw... Selma Blair.. what are they thinking... more importantly what was she thinking!

Yeah the americans really screwed the pooch on this one. the original premise of the show in australia was completely lost in translation, its like the american producers never even met the australian producers and decided to make another generic american sitcom on the back of the success of the australian show.

I'm Irish, but I'm officially addicted to the Aussie version, i was absolutely shocked to hear there was to be an American version in production - and to watch it with one eye closed and cringing for the writing and casting - I'm sorry, I find this to be an absolute shambles, this show worked on subtlety and every line was laughable. The american version just kills that possibility in the first five minutes!

    and Selma Blair?? wtf!!
