Why was no new slayer called after season 5?

| loading

SPOILERS!!!

I am confused on why no new slayer was called after buffy died at the end of season 5. I mean, she only had to be dead for like 5 seconds in season 1 for kendra to be called. You would think after being dead for an entire summer. . .

you know I always wondered this myself. Some people said it was because there was still Faith. But then again when Kendra died Faith was still called even though there was still Buffy. I think the writers just didnt want to deal with the whole "another slayer" thing again so they just left it out.

I don't know if I can explain this right, but it's a trigger-mechanism that gets passed on. Buffy dies (for 2 minutes) and Kendra get's called. By getting called, the trigger is passed on to her. So, technically, Kendra is the "official" slayer. She has the trigger, So when she dies, she passes the trigger on to Faith, who gets called next. So, when Buffy dies, nothing happens, cause the ball is in Faith's field, so to speak:P If Faith had died, a new slayer would have been called.

i guess that makes sense. but if the trigger was passed on after her first death, why would she retain her other powers as the slayer?

cuz if she didn't there wouldn't have been 6 more seasons of buffy....

This becomes clearer near the end of the series. Some girls are born as "potential slayers". They all have the power of the slayer inside them at all times, it's just locked until they are called. When Buffy was called, her power was unlocked. When Buffy died (the first time), Kendra was unlocked. The power wasn't actually passed on, just the "trigger-mechanism" that Faye-lynn described.

    .

And they really didn't want to deal with multiple slayers for a couple seasons (4-6). That's where Faith's coma and jail time came in.

Easy, When Buffy died Kendra took over from potential to new slayer. When Kendra died she was replaced by Faith. Faith is still alive & never died the way Buffy died to activate a new slayer. So her death was a normal one since her successor was Kendra. Now with the potentials all active around the world if would make this all meaningless.

What I would love to see is a cause & effect from all that. Like the powers are less effective with it being divided around so many women.

the reason was because she died a non-natural death.it wasn't because of natural cause she died so no new slayer was called.the first season when she died and Kendra was called she died of drowning and then when Kendra died that was when faith was chosen.if you listen closely the gang talks about it later on about why there wasn't another slayer.

It doesn't matter if buffy dies because Faith is still technically a slayer as well. So for there to be a new slayer BOTH Faith and Buffy would have to die. Faith is actually the real Slayer since Buffy was brought back to life after Faith was already chosen.

I think you're all wrong. The only answer can be: The writers massively screwed up. In the last season with all the potential slayers about Giles and Buffy said that if Buffy were killed one of them would be called so they had to be prepared.

So I'm afraid their is no answer other than a HUGE error.

or perhaps another slayer was called but they just don't show her. she could be off staking things somewhere else. but then again if it was such an important event at sunnydale - which it was - she should have been sent there by a watcher(the can't alllllll be dead can they?). i also think they couldv'e just called the army and stuck a BIG bomd down there in the pit with the ubervamps

Another slayer was called. She didn't show up on Buffy, but on Angel. Her name was Justine and she was played by Laurel Holloman. She first appear in Season 3 which coincides with Season 6 of Buffy.

Justine wasn't a slayer. She was just a pissed-off vigilante whose twin sister was killed by vampires.
