This summer's Mike Myers comedy, The Love Guru is not tickling everyone's funny bone. "Acclaimed Hindu and Indo-American leader" Rajan Zed and other leaders are expressing their concerns about the film being hurtful and slanderous to the Hindu religion.

Everybody now..."Waaaaaahhhhhh!"
To quote Steve Martin "Comedy isn't pretty". It certainly isn't the job of the genre to be politic. The funniest subjects are the ones we don't understand fully. Besides, I'm sure Myers' character is not lampooning actual Hindu gurus but rather their western proponents who operate with a minimal understanding of the culture for fun and profit.
Furthermore, if you are a member of a misunderstood sub-culture (or just a concerned liberal) bothered by sterotypes in the media then I have one piece of advice. Make your own films or if you lack the resources or inclination then go see the many films and TV shows which do enlighten and break down the barriers of understanding. See Rabbit-Proof Fence, Boyz N The Hood, Tsotsi, Little Mosque on the Prairie, or Bend it Like Beckham. Quit expecting every film to take your particular needs and feelings into account. It's pathetic.
I 100% agree. You don't hear everybody bitching about a films when they make fun of white, middle class christians, but god forbid that ONE movie( go ahead name me some other movies coming out this year that "make fun of" hindus) make fun of you beliefs.
