VOTING system needed.
A voteing system would solve alot of the problem.
Users and non-users can cast votes. Once a link has a certain percentage of negative votes the link can be automatically removed.
SideReel is quickly becomeing overloaded with SPAM and JUNK links including spyware, adware, and virus links just like the porn sites.
This is quickly going to ruin SideReel.

I like the concept, but in implementation, I see it being abused too easy. People wanting to knock off other links will just create multiple memberships, and vote till links start dropping off. With some tweaking (possibly reading IPs instead of user names), it could work.
What about repetitive links.
Dont know about the voting thing....? It might work. I think sidereel has been doing a good job handeling it to this point. I like what anti says about reading the IPs. Sounds like that could work. Have a list of bad IPs and dont let them add.
Some sites do have multiple links because of different versions available. Not all of them are trying to get to the top of the list.
zomg please correct typo. hurts. my. eyes.
oh, and those of us with noscript get "Ooops, it looks like you mistyped the words, please try again" until we allow recaptcha
how would this do anything but slow down the process of removing bad links? taking a week to vote a bad link until it's deleted, or simply deleting the bad link immedialy yourself.
I think having official, selected/volunteer moderators for popular pages would stop a huge amount of problems, e-mail notices when new things are added or removed to the page the moderator is watching would allow him/her to keep ontop of things, stop bad links and clean up the page.
I think that a system with voting with a thumps up for good links, and thumbs down for bad links should be implemented. With IP readings to ensure that no one person is just putting thumbs down on links just because it has a slow connection rate.
Also the links should be automatically removed after 20 or so thumbs down and then reviewed afterward to ensure the validity of the voting process. After a while you will know what sites repeatedly post fake links for the media and they can automatically be banned from posting links to any other media on the site. which will solve the problem but over time.
I like the voting system but I don't think link that gets thumb down should be automatically removed, I think you should give people the option, even if it's low percentage, we should be able to choose whether to use it or not. I say this because I go to the other website and a lot of people especially those in US has problems with youku and chinese sites (slow connection and whatnot) and give it tumbs down but for people who live nearer to China, we can access it no problem. I used to live in US, and always have problems with youku, but now I choose it when people gave it thumbs down.
Also, as for that zango thing, some work even though it pops up. As long as you click CANCEL, most of the time you still can watch a show no problem.
Once I watch Lost season finale here, and people delete the link, that link was fine to me and it was the clearest I ever seen via Divix, almost like watching HDTV but someone just delete it immediately. But then ninjavideo doesn't work for me.
I am just saying it's different for everyone especially depending on where you reside in the world and everyone has different case. Like youku is fine for me but tudou is not, even though both are chinese sites, which is quite weird.
All those hulu, itunes, amazon, veoh links don't ever work for me but I won't want them remove and robbed other people (those in US) the opportunity who can watch it.
I admit I really hate those links that trick you into entering membership, which is one of the reasons why I only watch shows and series on this site and not full length films, 'cause too many spams and trick sites on those full length features. For series and shows, they don't appear much.
Bottom line voting is good but don't remove every single tumbs down link unless those links lead to membership, spam sites.

May I suggest using the system they do on Newgrounds.com?
Newgrounds is a flash submission site that gets probably the largest amount of crap
sent to it on a faily base's. And yet, somehow, they always get the gems from the dren.
Spam and the worst links are automaticaly removed by voteing, anything with an average that falls below a certain level.
However, its the small print that makes this system work so well, imho.
The "weight" of each vote is based on how expirenced the person voteing is, which is determained by the length of their account activity. So a real member would have a lot stronger voteing power then one freshly signed up.
I'd really recomend looking into a system like this, as it helps prevent mass-email voteing being so usefull. (of course, you have IP-blocking as well)
Hi all,
This is a quite interesting discussion. As a moderator is can be difficult to deal with all of the spam that is being submitted. The system automatically handles some of it and moderators handle some of it. The Side Reel administrators are VERY aware of the spam that is being submitted into the system and are taking a hard stance on it! We continue to find new ways to deal with the issues including adult advertisements, malware, link redirect sites, etc.
This open and CONSTRUCTIVE discussion is very appropriate. I am only an moderator, but I appreciate everyone's thoughts. I speak only for myself, but I do want you to know that these ideas make Side Reel what it is today. Your suggestions make this a better place and I know that the administrators look for innovative ways to make the site the best one there is!
I just wanted to add my 2¢.
Have a great day....

Darkflame hit the jackpot!
Folks, this is an awesome discussion. Here is a bullet point of what I heard:
-Link voting - once there are a lot of negative votes, link gets removed or flagged for review
-Remove duplicate links
-List of banned IPs
-CAPTCHA should be better
-Link update notification for moderators
-Voting linked to user credibility
More on next post . . .
continued . . .
At SideReel we've tried our best to make constant improvements in features, link quality, discussion functionality and SPAM prevention. Currently, we have in place several of the features discussed above. We don't have link voting (yet) because we, like many of you, believe that spammers will abuse the system, and because it is relatively expense to build in terms of resources. Also, as Darkflame suggested, a smarter community voting system may be required.
We've made several changes last week and are waiting see how they affect spammers. There are more changes on the way. In the meantime, we're building better notifications because those are needed badly as well.
Lastly, this discussion is very valuable for us so please, please, please keep the suggestions coming. And of course, we can always use more moderators.

The problem with the voting system is as I have seen there are to many spammers that dont care about the rules and add link after link to movies and shows. We could end up with 100 links to a movie before one bad one gets voted out! Imagine having to go through 25 or 30 links to find one thats clean and good quality.
I remember when I first got involved with deleting links. It was an average of 75 links to each movie.
I'm leaning to the IPs because they are at least not cost effective for the spammers to keep changing if they are on a not allowed list here.
adude2006, I agree with you. IPs are important with the blocking. I am finding that if one site gets blocked, then the spammer adds a new domain on that same shared server and reopens again. Is there a way to prevent link flooding?
what i do now is run through all the links, if i get one with no working film, or ZANGO, i delet it shortening up the links, an even occasionaly deleting the real crappy versions, if your gonna put it up it might as well b a good version!!!
