Winona Ryder investigated by police as she 'loses' borrowed £80,000 diamond bracelet
| loadingWinona Ryder has been accused of losing £81,000 of diamonds loaned to her for a fashion awards ceremony.
The actress, who was convicted of shoplifting in 2001, was given a diamond encrusted bracelet and ring to wear to a Marie Claire magazine party.
Miss Ryder reported the items missing after she allegedly handed them to staff at her Madrid hotel for safekeeping.
But according to the French magazine Voici, hotel management insist they have no surveillance footage showing her handing over the jewels. Executives at Bulgari, which owns the diamonds, apparently called in the police.
For her offence seven years ago, Miss Ryder was given three years of probation and 480 hours of community service.
The star of such films as Edward Scissorhands and Little Women was also ordered to attend counselling.
Miss Ryder appeared in good health at last week's event in Madrid - a stark contrast to the frail figure who arrived at Heathrow only a day earlier.
Miss Ryder, 37, collapsed twice on her flight to London, where she is scheduled to begin filming for her role in the new Star Trek movie.
It is believed she took an overdose of tranquilisers on the long-haul flight.
A spokesman for Bulgari refused to comment on the story last night and Miss Ryder's spokesman was not available.
