I have to tell you...if the Jonas Brothers win for Best New Artist (and are they really a new artist? Really?) I have no understanding of the music industry whatsoever.

I dont undestand how some of these people get grammy nomiations. Kid Rock? Really? He is average at best, not someone who deserves a grammy, and for a song where all he did was sing over the top of Sweet Home Alabama, that song is tantamount to a cover and Jason Marz, for Song of the year? Again, he is ok I guess, but Song of the Year, meaning when we look back at 2008 we are really going to remember any of these songs that are nominated as defining that year of music? None of them do, out of all of them Love Song from Sara Barielles is the most deserving but even that is lackluster as a song of the year. And I swear to god if the Jonas Brother actually win a grammy(getting nominated is bad enough) but if they win, the grammys have lost all crediblity. It seems like for the most part these nominationies do not dererve a grammy and the ones that do are being nominated for their lesser works. The ones that actually derserve grammys; Mayer, Alicia Keyes, Coldplay, Radiohead, Paul McCartney are nominated for songs and albums that are not their best. The 2008 Grammys are really subpar this year. At least, thank god they did not give miley cyrus a nomination, they saved a tiny bit of credibility with that decision.
Am I the only one who thinks Leona Lewis is overrated?
Haha...am I the only one that thinks Katy Perry is overrated? I actually thought she would receive more nominations...
Leona Lewis I have never even bothered to listen to beyond "Bleeding Love".
I really liked Adele's and Duffy's albums though, so I'm happy to see they got recognized!
Who the heck is Adele anyway?
these people sell records. that's what this is about. we can cry about that if we like...but that's it. they sell. what that equates to is that PEOPLE LIKE THEIR MUSIC. and that's why they will win. and as for the Jonas Brothers... based on how huge they were able to get in a years time; based on sold out tours and concerts w/ thousands upon thousands of ppl; based on the fact that they're at least bringing the concepts of playing your own instruments and writing your own songs back to teenie-bopper-pop.... they DESERVE to win. we don't have to like their music i suppose. but COME ON to deny that they deserve recognition and act like they've done nothing at all....that's just ridiculous. and yes, quite often the best new artist is someone who may not have JUST walked on to the scene, but broke through this year in a big way.
Selling records is not what the grammys is supposed to be about, that is want MTV awards are, Grammys are supposed to be strictly about the music. Which is why it seems like they are losing some creditiblity in that regard. Giving nominations to people like the jonas brother, and no, there is a giant difference between playing for thousands of people and playing for thousands of teenage girls. Which is what they do. There fans could not care less if they play their own instruments or write their own music, neither of which they do particularally well, the cover they tried to do of John Mayers Gravity makes me sick. They are not in the same level as those type of musicians which is what the grammys are supposed to be about. Go give them an MTV award fine, who really cares about those, but grammys are supposed to be about real musicians playing real music and they are neither. The best new artist award is supposed to be about someone they are recognizing as an artist we should be paying attention to and look to see great things from in the future. Now does that sound like the jonas brothers? A band that probably wont exist in five years should not be nominated for best new artist. Grammys are supposed to be something musicians strive to get to the level off, not just because teen age girls like them and they can play the a minor, c, and g chords on the guitar. They are just simply not a grammy level artist, or at the least the level of which the grammys used to represent.
Haha. Word, ak10...though I imagined when I complained about the Jonas Brothers there would be quite a few dissenters.
At any rate, regardless of how many records they sell...whenever they actually perform live - like at the American Music Awards a few weeks ago - they sound horrid (at least in my humble opinion).
And...I swear whichever Jonas it is that supposedly is playing the guitar barely ever touches it!
When heard on the radio in all of its produced glory, I admit that perhaps a few of their songs sound passably catchy...but I agree with ak10 that their actual talent level lies somewhere in the mediocre range and that in 5 years they will likely disappear.
Time will tell...
for a start the kid rock track is like ppl say just a cover version and it does not portray the true kid rock style unless he now wants radio shifters and there is no true rock or metal covered so these awards mean nothing at all to me they are like the brit awards over here just for all the crap music
