Director Sydney Pollack died Monday of cancer at his home in Pacific Palisades. He was 73. Pollack was often regarded as one of his genreations' best directors, helming projects like "Tootsie", "The Firm" and "Out of Africa", the latter winning him a Best Director Academy Award in 1986. He also served as a producer on many successful films including the recent "Michael Clayton" and "Cold Mountain".
