A Touch of Cloth

Sundays, 9:00 PM ET on Sky One

A Touch of Cloth is an all-encompassing parody of every police procedural ever written. It stars John Hannah (The Mummy, Spartacus) as DCI Jack Cloth - a maverick, heavy drinking loner who has thrown himself into his work following the mysterious death of his wife. The damaged, haunted Cloth is teamed with plucky no-nonsense sidekick DC Anne Oldman, played by Suranne Jones (Coronation Street, Unforgiven). Together the pair investigate a series of increasingly grisly murders and find themselves on the trail of a devious killer. As you do. If you’re a detective.

Word Play with the subtlety of a steam roller. More sight gags than you can see in one sitting, and every Cop cliche.

This is an extremely funny, yet dramatic, parody of police-proceduals. The acting is absolutely superb. I love John Hannah, and he's absolutely brilliant as the tough DI Cloth. Suranne Jones is so delightful as Anne Oldman (pronounced Old Man), though her lesbian storyline in series one is better than what she's given in subsequent series. Their supporting cast consists of totally one-dimensional characters, which is played up hilariously. It's a shame that Sidereel isn't keeping this page current, because a third series has just aired in the U.K., and it doesn't look like they have any intention of stopping any time soon.
