'American Horror Story: Coven' taps 'House of the Rising Sun' for new promo

"American Horror Story: Coven" has started the annual onslaught of promos, each lasting less than 30 seconds but managing to cram in a whole lotta creepy in the amount of time they play. First we had "Detention," now above there's "Staircase," which comes with the caption, "Misbehave and incur our kind of suspension," lending credence to our thought that the "Coven" is about a school for witches of some sort. Below, there's "Pins and Needles," which is captioned, "Because "pinning" on the internet is all the rage ... " Heh. Also, we think that's definitely a nod to Angela Bassett's character of Marie Laveau. Look for many more of these to come in the next couple months and get ready for "American Horror Story: Coven," which returns to FX in October.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/american-horror-story-coven-taps-house-of-the-rising-sun-for-new-promo.html

'Ravenswood' shooting in New Orleans - 'American Horror Story' crossover, anyone?

ABC Family is launching a "Pretty Little Liars" spin-off in October called "Ravenswood," set in a town nearby "Liars" Rosewood -- but the two shows won't be filming anywhere near each other. While "PLL" shoots on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles, it has been revealed via creator Marlene King that "Ravenswood" has just packed up the trucks and headed for New Orleans. We have to say -- this is an excellent turn of events. While "Pretty Little Liars" is focused largely on "A" and her torturing of all the Liars and therefore doesn't necessarily need the distinct sense of place that some shows do, "Ravenswood" is focusing its entire mythology around a curse in a very creepy town and therefore definitely needs that sense of place. We don't know much about it yet, but from what little we've seen on PLL so far, "Ravenswood" will definitely be well-served by being filmed in such an... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/ravenswood-shooting-in-new-orleans---american-horror-story-crossover-anyone.html

American Horror Story: Coven: Sarah Paulson to Play Jessica Lange's Daughter and More Scoop

Ryan Murphy wasn't present for American Horror Story: Coven 's panel at the Television Critics Association fall previews on Friday, but his cast is well-trained in the art of keeping secrets. That said, there was one mother of a reveal that should get AHS fans salivating for the third installment of FX's horror anthology series.       http://www.tvguide.com/News/American-Horror-Story-1068838.aspx?rss=breakingnews

'American Horror Story: Coven': Season 3 sees Jessica Lange as Sarah Paulson's mother (and witch!)

In what is no surprise, based on the title, "American Horror Story: Coven" is centering around witches, though not every character is a practitioner of the dark arts. But at the 2013 TCA FX day, Sarah Paulson reveals that she is playing Cordelia, daughter to Jessica Lange's Fiona (and don't think the use of the name "Cordelia" is a coincidence, you Shakespeare fans). Are they a family of witches? We'll have to wait and see."Some of us play witches, some play historical characters. I do play a witch. We move back and forth in time, so it encompasses a lot of different stories," teases Lange. The historical characters she refers to are Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) and Marie Laveau, off whom Angela Bassett says her character is loosely based. And despite the darkness of those characters -- LaLaurie as a famous slave-torturer and Laveau as a Voodoo priestess -- executive producer Tim Minear says... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/american-horror-story-coven-season-3-sees-jessica-lange-as-sarah-paulsons-mother-and-witch.html

'American Horror Story: Coven': Kathy Bates is Madame LaLaurie

We've got some "American Horror Story" scoop prior to the AHS panel at TCA press tour later Friday (Aug. 2). As we speculated back in March, Zap2it has learned that Kathy Bates is playing Madame LaLaurie, a real-life terror of New Orleans in the first half of the 19th century, leaving New Orleans in 1834. We don't know that the show is necessarily set that far back in history, or if it skips around in time. But Bates will be bringing Marie Delphine LaLaurie, or Madame LaLaurie, to life for FX. LaLaurie was a New Orleans socialite who was discovered to have tortured and killed dozens of black slaves in her mansion, which is still standing on Royal Street. We've also learned that Angela Bassett is playing Marie Laveau, a real-life Louisiana Creole woman who lived in New Orleans in the 19th century as well. She was known as a Voodoo priestess. In casting news, Alexandra... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/american-horror-story-coven-kathy-bates-is-madame-lalaurie.html
