‘Bates Motel': How Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore Bring the Murderous “Mother Norma” to Life

There’s no greater bond than that of a mother and her child, and there’s no time that old saying is creepier than when applied to Norma and Norman Bates, the oedipally intimate mother-son duo at the heart of A&E’s Bates Motel. The series follows Freddie Highmore‘s young Norman Bates on his journey from a disturbed, but lovable teenager to the calculating, murderous motel manager originated in Alfred Hitchcock‘s Psycho. In both iterations, it’s Norman’s overly devoted relationship to his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga), and his resulting psychological manifestation of her, that spurs him to violent action. READ MORE...

The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of March 7, 2016

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it — with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.   Bates Motel (Season Premiere) Monday at 9:00pm on A&E Why: If you recall, the previous season concluded with Norman bashing sweet (ok, not that sweet) Bradley's head into a rock...repeatedly...so Norman will have a lot of explaining to do, not that that he will even remember. Can Norma get poor Norman the mental health care he so desperately needs (well, guess not, but she's sure gonna try)?And who's Norman going to kill next? Eventually it's gotta be Norma (hello, Psycho!), but the big question is...when in this series will that occur? Prepare to talk about: Are we into Dylan and Emma as a thing?; are we into Norma and Romero as a thing?; are we into Norman and Norma as a thing? (j/k); how damn creepy Norman is when he assumes the Mother personality (kudos Freddie Highmore, because the answer is VERY creepy).   Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Midseason Premiere) Tuesday at 9:00pm on ABC Why: Because we are excited to meet the new character we've been promised: Elena Rodriguez, an Inhuman with super speed, nicknamed Slingshot. And speaking of Inhumans, aren't you curious how long this new Ward will be sticking around, what his powers are, and just how evil he will end up being? What should we even call him? "Ward"? NuWard? 2Ward? Hive-Ward? Just Hive? That seems boring. Prepare to talk about: How Coulson is darker and all tortured now (good? bad?); how Ward is the villain that just keeps on villain-ing, huh (yes, I know he's not technically Ward anymore, but in your heart he still kind of is AND the end result is that Brett Dalton gets to remain employed); how this show has really hit its stride lately.   American Crime (Season Finale) Wednesday at 10:00pm on ABC Why: We need to know what exactly happened at that damn party that triggered the events of Season 2! Will we ever truly know? Will there be justice for the shooting? How long will Taylor be going to jail for? How sympathetic are we towards him? Will Becca be implicated in the case? Yeesh. There is no way this episode can wrap everything up, right? Prepare to talk about: How this show is NOT the same show as American Crime Story (confusing though); how this show is full of terrible people - children and adults; how Leslie is the worst and we hate Leslie UGH (     Rachel is a product manager at SideReel and has worked there practically forever. She really hopes that JoJo will be the next Bachelorette. div.post p { text-align: justify; }

Bates Motel Mega Buzz: Norma's Losing Her Grip

  In the Season 3 finale of Bates Motel , Norman Bates ( Freddie Highmore ) escaped from the basement where his mother Norma ( Vera Farmiga ) was holding him and ran off with Bradley ( Nicola Peltz ) -- only to end up bludgeoning her to death. Bates Motel Season 4 Poster: Desecent Into Madness

Norman and Norma Bates are about to merge into one. At least in Norman Bates' mind. I'm pretty sure Norma will remain clueless as to exactly far down the rabbit hole her son has fallen, even though she will continue trying to get her son help when Bates Motel returns in March. We've seen this look on Norman's face before, but clutching pearls just gives it a whole new level of lunacy, don't you think?    Read More...   http://www.tvfanatic.com/2016/01/bates-motel-season-4-new-poster-revealed/

Bates Motel Season 4 Tease: Down the Drain

You know what's been so terribly difficult about watching Bates Motel? Knowing the trajectory Norman and Norma were taking and that there was nothing to be done to stop it. The teaser for Bates Motel Season 4 features a haunting version of "Where Did Our Love Go," which should give us plenty to chew on as we wait for March 7. But no...there is so much more!   Read More... http://www.tvfanatic.com/videos/bates-motel-season-4-tease-down-the-drain/
