TV Ratings: 'X Factor' holds, 'Charlie's Angels' off to modest start

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011Fall programming continued to roll out last night, making for a rerun-free Thursday that included four series premieres. Most notably, however, is the second night of FOX's "The X Factor," which performed almost the same as its Wednesday outing. ABC's "Charlie's Angels" reboot was greeted with modest ratings, falling short of the network's two-hour "Grey's Anatomy" premiere. And on CBS, "Big Bang Theory" topped scripted efforts with an 8.6 and the night's strongest performance in adults 18-49. That, combined with a strong start for "Person of Interest" helped CBS score the biggest overall audience of the night, averaging 13.6 million viewers and a 8.4 rating/13 share among households in primetime. FOX (12 million, 7.3/11) followed in second, with ABC (9.8 million, 6.6/10) in third, NBC (5.7 million, 3.6/6) in fourth and The CW (2.3 million, 1.5/2) coming in last. Thanks to "X Factor," FOX topped among adults 18-49, drawing...

The Angels Learn Just How Dangerous the Job Is on 'Charlie's Angels' (VIDEO)

Well, if the creators wanted the fate of Gloria to be any sort of surprise for the viewers of this 'Charlie's Angels' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC) series premiere, they should have handled things a lot differently in the promotion of the remake. Imagine the shock we could have had in seeing one of the Angels die in the very first episode. Now that's exactly what happened, but it was Nadine Velazquez instead of one of the three women we've seen everywhere promoting the show. When the episode began and Minka Kelly wasn't in the trio of ladies saving the day, we knew Gloria's days were numbered. But ABC could have had a much bigger reaction if they'd pretended Velazquez was a castmember all along, even giving her lead billing in this premiere rather than seeing her name tacked on as a guest star.

Minka Kelly Gives Details on Her 'Charlie's Angels' Character Eve's Backstory (VIDEO)

The reboot of 'Charlie's Angels' premieres tonight at 10PM ET on ABC, and Minka Kelly stopped by 'Live With Regis & Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) to talk about the show and her character Eve. Apparently the show's producers wanted to cast Kelly so badly that they re-wrote the script to fit her talents. "It's funny because they had to write this new character. The character that they had written I didn't fit, so I was blessed and lucky enough for them to come up with Eve," Kelly said. The show then cut to a clip from the 'Angels' premiere, which gave some details on Eve's backstory. She was raised in an orphanage in El Salvador after her parents, American aid workers, were killed in the country's civil war. She's also been a car-thief, and though she didn't mention it in the clip, a marine. "I'm not gonna bet the cards I've been dealt. If you want to survive, you have to adapt," Eve says. Adapt from orphan to angel, specifically.
