‘The Crazy Ones,’ and Four More Series Cancelled by CBS

Given CBS’ robust slate of pickups, there were precious few series left on the bubble, however five of those bubble shows were formally cancelled today.  The Crazy Ones ,  Bad Teacher ,  Friends with Better Lives ,  Intelligence  and  Hostages  were all axed. None of the freshman series managed to live up to CBS’ high ratings standards and as a result they had to join the few shows CBS decided not to bring back next season. Top Moments: Awkward Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder and Alex Trebek Raps!

Our top moments of the week: 12. Most Brutal Setback:  After nearly dying trying to save a baby from a fire in the fall finale of  Chicago Fire , viewers are surprised to see Casey alive and well and acting like nothing ever happened. His physical wounds may have healed, but the emotional toll is brutal. Moments after helping a hostage escape from a robber during another fire, Casey takes the bad guy to task and punches him to a bloody pulp. Yeah, that's  definitely  not part of the job description. 11. Safest Ending: On the buttoned-up season -- and likely series -- finale of the low-rated  Hostages ,  Ellen saves the president's life and...   http://www.tvguide.com/News/Moments-Nina-Dobrev-Ian-Somerhalder-1075497.aspx?rss=breakingnews

TV ratings: 'The Bachelor' premiere rises vs. last year, 'Almost Human' up too

Fast National ratings for Monday, Jan. 6, 2014Monday night's biggest TV program -- the BCS national championship game on ESPN -- didn't air on a broadcast network. However, a couple of the originals that did air on the broadcast nets did reasonably well. The season premiere of "The Bachelor" on ABC was up a good amount from its debut a year ago, and it in turn helped "Castle" lead its hour across the board. FOX's "Almost Human" improved on its most recent original episode as well. The finale of "Hostages," however, dipped some for CBS.ABC delivered 8.6 million viewers and a 5.6 rating/8 share in households for the night. CBS (5.2 million, 3.5/5) came in second, beating out FOX's 4.5 million viewers and 2.7/4. NBC (4.2 million, 2.8/4) finished fourth, and The CW (631,000, 0.4/1) was well off the pace. The adults 18-49 title also went to ABC, whose 2.4 rating was almost double the 1.3 of... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/tv-ratings-the-bachelor-premiere-rises-vs-last-year-almost-human-up-too.html

'Hostages' Season 1 finale: The 'Endgame' doesn't include many happy endings

"Hostages" concludes with two back-to-back episodes Monday (Jan. 6), much the way the season has unwound. It requires leaps of faith from viewers as operatives triple-cross each other. Many die, and even those who are supposed to live happily ever after probably won't.Part 1In "Suspicious Minds," Col. Thomas Blair (Brian White), a leader of plot to assassinate the president, kidnaps FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle's (Dylan McDermott) wife and daughter.Ah, karma. Carlisle, of course, is the leader of a band of kidnappers who have been holding surgeon Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) and her family hostage, demanding she kill the president during surgery. Carlisle wanted in on the plot so he could harvest the president's bone marrow to save his wife, who is dying from leukemia. Nina (Francie Swift) is the daughter the president (James Naughton), fathered when he raped a reporter in 1978. Carlisle has proven to be a decent man, and he regrets the carnage from this... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2014/01/hostages-season-1-finale-the-endgame-doesnt-involve-many-happy-endings.html

TV ratings: 'The Voice' dips with final performances, 'Mike & Molly' grows Monday

Fast National ratings for Monday, Dec. 16, 2013The final performances on "The Voice" carried NBC to a ratings win Monday, but the show will likely be down from last week (the network's Baltimore affiliate carried the "Monday Night Football" game) and off significantly from last fall's final performance episode. It did, however, help "The Sing-Off" score better ratings than its last few outings.Elsewhere Monday, "Mike & Molly" grew by a couple tenths of a point in adults 18-49 on CBS and scored its biggest overall audience since its season premiere. "Hostages" ticked up as well. FOX's "Almost Human" was down vs. last week.NBC brought in 11.1 million viewers and a 6.8 rating/11 share in households, pending updates for the local NFL telecast. CBS (6.9 million, 4.5/7) came in second. ABC (4.4 million, 2.8/4) currently sits in third, also pending updates for a local "Monday Night Football" broadcast in Detroit. FOX (3.9 million, 2.5/4) finished fourth,... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/tv-ratings-the-voice-dips-with-final-performances-mike-molly-grows-monday.html

'Hostages' Season 1, episode 13: 'Fight of Flight' leaves everyone grounded

FBI Agent Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) cannot catch a break.Sure, you may have little sympathy for him, given that he's taken a family hostage, and has shot and beaten up people. But he did it all for love, and in Monday's (Dec. 16) episode of "Hostages," he seems to lose even that.By the end of the episode, his terminally ill wife, Nina (Francie Swift), has run away, with their little girl in tow. Nina's forthright and canny. She calls Duncan from the train station, which may be the episode's biggest surprise -- she finds a working public phone -- so he will hear the train announcements. Nina knows her husband will follow her there.Instead she heads to an airport. Just as Nina and Sawyer are boarding the plane, the evil Co. Blair (Brian White) pulls her off the line. The colonel is a smooth operator, angling to be president and one of the cabal in on... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/12/hostages-season-1-episode-13-fight-of-flight-leaves-everyone-grounded.html
