'Last Man Standing' Season 2 retools family dynamic and ages up the kid

Television producers have been using this trick for decades. They realize that babies can't deliver much of a punch line, are a pain in the butt to work with on set, and have generally terrible comedic timing... so, over the course of a summer hiatus, a child miraculously becomes old enough to memorize lines, make jokes, and use the bathroom without supervision."Last Man Standing" is the latest sitcom to employ this. We've already reported that the show has ousted Alexandra Krosney, the actress who plays Kristen, for "creative reasons." For those unfamiliar with the show, Kristen is Mike's (Tim Allen) daughter who got pregnant her senior year and now lives with her parents and her two-year-old son.Make that five-year-old. When the show returns for Season 2, the toddler will be ready for kindergarten. Producers have put out a casting call for an older child to play Boyd, who was previously portrayed by twins Luke and...

'Last Man Standing' Season 2: Alexandra Krosney will not return to Tim Allen family comedy

ABC is moving Tim Allen's "Last Man Standing" to Friday nights this fall, reviving the old "TGIF"-like comedy block -- and they're making some significant changes to the show in the meantime. Alexandra Krosney, who played Allen's oldest daughter in the first season, will not be reprising her role in Season 2. TVLine reports that for "creative reasons," producers have given her the boot and will be recasting the role of Kristin, who had a baby during her senior year of high school and still lives at home. Nick Jonas played the baby's deadbeat dad.It seems an odd decision to make, given that it's a significant role in the sitcom and a recast certainly won't be subtle. Not to mention, out of the three daughters, Kristin was arguably the most likable. Who do you think should take over the role?...

'Last Man Standing' Finale: Mike Buys A Tank?!

After a successful first season, Tim Allen's latest sitcom " Last Man Standing " (Tue., 8 p.m. ET on ABC) didn't feel the need to rock the boat too much in this season finale. That's not to say that there weren't some pages that could be felt in the upcoming season. While it's not clear what kind of story potential long-term there could be in Mike's impulsive purchase of a tank this week, it served as a parallel to Vanessa's weakness for constantly loaning her sister, April, money -- loaning which usually equates more to giving with no hope of ever seeing again. After convincing her that it was better for her sister to push her to stand on her own two feet, Vanessa stands firm and gets back all the money her sister has borrowed. There's just one little catch. She also let her move in. The other change came with virtually no drama at all when Kyle and Kristin realized that they were drifting apart as a couple and broke up. Of course, Mike kept open the invitation for Kyle to come over as part of the family, so there's the potential for future awkwardness. No official word yet has come about a second season for the network, but experts expect ABC will renew it when they announce their fall 2012 schedule next week.
