AMC Cancels Crime Drama ‘Low Winter Sun’

It was much expected, but AMC just made it official: ‘Low Winter Sun’ has not been renewed for second season. An adaptation of a U.K. miniseries, the show suffered a steep ratings decline over its season. “Low Winter Sun” debuted to 2.5 million viewers in August, but later episodes fell below the 1 million mark. ‘Low Winter Sun,’ ‘Scandal’ Stars to Join ‘The Following’ Season 2 (Exclusive)

Two new characters could make things tougher for Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and his mission to take down murderous cult leader Joe Carroll (James Purefoy). TheWrap has learned exclusively that Sprague Grayden will join in a recurring role and Gregg Henry has signed on to guest star. Most recently on AMC’s “Low Winter Sun,” Grayden will play Carrie Cooke, a tabloid reporter turned best-selling author. ‘Low Winter Sun’ Star James Ransone: ‘It Wasn’t a Good Show’

Add cast member James Ransone to the list of TV watchers who were underwhelmed by AMC’s crime drama “Low Winter Sun.” “It wasn’t a good show,” Ransone told TheWrap. “I had higher expectations going in. They can’t all be winners.” Ransone is best known for his work as “Ziggy” Sobotka, the hard-partying son of a union leader on HBO’s “The Wire,” so he has a few winners on his resume. 'Low Winter Sun' season finale: Did 'Ann Arbor' and 'Surrender' close Detroit cop show well?

"Low Winter Sun" comes to the end of its first season on Sunday (Oct. 6) with a double episode. "Ann Arbor" and "Surrender" work together to close the gritty Detroit police drama. The question is, did the episodes succeed?In the first of the two episodes in the finale, "Ann Arbor," Frank (Mark Strong) has to struggle to keep his own sanity as his former actions take their toll on the cop's psyche. While all of this is going on, the Detroit Police Department catches a break in the McCann case. "Surrender" follows to end the double-episode and the season. In the true finale, several characters end up dead, the police come close to solving McCann's murder and Boyd quits the police force.Are these two episodes a fitting end to "Low Winter Sun"?
