TV Ratings: 'Last Man Standing' and 'Malibu Country' debut high for ABC

Fast national ratings for Friday, Nov. 2, 2012CBS won Friday night as usual this week, but it's ABC that's really celebrating after successful debuts of its sophomore comedy "Last Man Standing" -- up significantly from its first season finale -- and Reba McEntire's "Malibu Country," which delivered the network its highest ratings in that timeslot in 5 years. Meanwhile, their "Shark Tank" also hit a high in its timeslot. Also of note -- after hitting a series low last week, "Nikita" is back on track. 'Malibu Country': Will you return to Reba McEntire's new home?

Reba McEntire returned to prime-time TV Friday night (Oct. 2) in "Malibu Country," the new sitcom many are calling "Reba 2.0." As we noted in our review, "Malibu Country" can't compare to the highbrow humor offered in other Emmy-winning comedies like "30 Rock" and "Louis C.K.," but the charismatic country crooner and Lily Tomlin, her delightfully droll co-star, still entertain despite the predictable and often corny script. As Tomlin told reporters at the TCA Press Tour this summer, "I thought this character would be an opportunity...Lillie Mae's part was to be audacious, outrageous, to say it like it was. She's willing to experiment and try anything, where Reba is kind of shut down. Lillie Mae's anything but. I hope she'll even be a bad influence on the kids. I can see her getting involved in anything in the world." What's your verdict? Are you going to get involved with "Malibu Country"? Or do you prefer...

Reba McEntire resides in 'Malibu Country' but open to 'Nashville'

Reba McEntire's back, and ABC's got her. It's hard, if not downright impossible, to challenge country music icon McEntire's sense of what her loyal and large fan base wants: She had a six-season run with her WB/CW comedy "Reba" (still seen in repeats on both ABC Family and Country Music Television), and as she returns to weekly television, she's adopting a familiar-feeling character and premise.Premiering Friday, Nov. 2, "Malibu Country" casts her as a once-major singing star who decides to relocate from Nashville to Southern California and salvage her career after her marriage falls apart. As on "Reba," the central figure has teen children (Justin Prentice, Juliette Angelo) ... with added concerns posed by her own sassy mother, appropriately played by perennially saucy comedy legend Lily Tomlin.Melissa Peterman was an ever-upbeat presence McEntire played off on "Reba"; now that slot is filled by Sara Rue ("Less Than Perfect") as an enthusiastic neighbor who constantly shares too...

Take a first look at ABC’s new series  Malibu Country  which premieres this Fall 2012 on Fridays at 8:30pm. When Reba Gallagher (Reba) discovers that her husband, Bobby, (Jeffrey Nordling) acountry music  legend, has a cheatin’ heart, her world is turned upside down. Reba dreamt of becoming a country star herself, but put her career on hold to raise a family. Now she’s questioning all of that, big-time. With the ink on her divorce  barely dry, Reba packs up her sharp-tongued mother, Lillie May (Lily Tomlin), her two kids and the U-Haul and heads for sunny California to begin a new chapter. Leaving Nashville in the rear view, they start over at their Malibu residence — the last remaining asset they have. Reba gets to know her new open and loving neighbor Kim (Sara Rue) and her son, Sage, but also discovers that relocation to Southern California is going to be quite an adjustment for a traditional southern belle: the West Coast seems like the polar opposite of Music City, and Reba feels  like an outsider. Still, with the support of her family she sets about finding her voice, jump-starting her music career with the help of her new music agent, Geoffrey (Jai Rodriguez), and embracing this chance to begin again.
