The series follows him on tour and into attics, basements and flea markets in search of treasures from the bygone age, and includes audio and film footage, as well as past and present performances of songs.

The role that radio played in making music stars is recalled in the Season 3 finale, which features clips of such classic entertainers as Bing Crosby, Cab Calloway and Kate Smith. Feinstein also visits with Rose Marie, who began her career as a child singer; learns about the intersection of classical and popular music from violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Jeremy Denk, who perform together; and discusses his duet with Rosemary Clooney after discovering a lost radio program that featured her.
