Once Upon a Time: Do You Prefer the Fairytale World or Storybrooke?

One of the complaints I've heard about Once Upon a Time is that some fans seem to prefer one world over the other.  In some respects, it's not difficulty to understand their frustration.  The fairytale world seems to contain rich storytelling.  While we know the tales that are being shown to us, it's interesting to see the little twists the writers put on the fables, or to see them fill in the blanks. The fairytale world is also full of more archetypal characters, but it's amusing and exciting to watch the Evil Queen being evil, or see Prince Charming act heroic.  Even if the stories occasionally delve into cheesy territory, all is forgiven because we know they're telling us what is essentially a fairytale.  Read More...

'Once Upon a Time': Emilie de Ravin on the Belle-Rumpelstiltskin relationship

"Lost" alum Emilie de Ravin is coming to "Once Upon a Time" Sunday (Feb. 12) as Belle, the fairy tale princess who sacrifices her freedom to save her friends and family in the ogre war. Just how does she do that? By becoming the captive of Rumpelstiltskin."[Belle] has always wanted to be the brave one and go out into the world and do something with her life and she has the chance to," says de Ravin. "She has a chance to save her family and her friends by going to live with Mr. Stiltskin."Rumpelstiltskin is the "beast" role in the fairy tale of "Beauty and the Beast," which has us wondering if the relationship between Belle and Rumpel is the same as in the fairy tale - is there love there?"There's a love," says De Ravin. "Not the same as where the fairy tale goes, but there's actually a really beautiful progression in their relationship...

Once Upon a Time Episode 12 Promo: Belle Comes to the Fairytale World

This week's Once Upon a Time gave us some unexpected backstory on the Magic Mirror/Sidney.  As it turns out, he was actually a Genie, trapped inside a lamp until King Leopold (Snow's father) set him free.  A happy man who loved his daughter, Leopold's only real crime was the fact that he couldn't truly love his wife (the Evil Queen).  Instead, the situation resulted in the Queen and the Genie falling in love.  In hopes of freeing her, the Genie killed Leopold. In Storybrooke, Sidney and Emma teamed up, hoping to expose Regina for corruption.  While they did find valuable information, Regina managed to talk her away out of it, telling the town council that she had used the funds to build a playground for Storybrooke's children.  For more on the episode, read our recap and review . Unfortunately, Once Upon a Time is on hiatus next week, but will return with new episodes on February 12. Jessy Schram will be returning as Cinderella/Ashley. In Storybrooke, Mr. Gold's house is robbed, and Emma is afraid that he may be seeking vigilante justice, so she keeps an eye on him. Meanwhile, Valentine's Day is upon the town and Mary Margaret rounds up Ruby and Ashley for a girls' night out. In the fairytale world, Emilie de Ravin appears as Belle, who agrees to sacrifice herself for a deal in order to protect her town from the Ogre war. Once Upon a Time Spoilers: A Genie, An (Emotional) Affair & An Exposé, Oh My!

It appears that we'll be getting all new episodes of Once Upon a Time throughout January!  The show returned with its January premiere this week and we got a much-needed peek into Rumpelstiltskin's past ( read our detailed recap and review ).  We know that the January 15 episode will tell us the tale of Hansel and Gretel, while the January 22 episode will give us more insight into Prince Charming and Snow White as Charming's wedding to King Midas' daughter approaches (read more spoilers for the episodes here ). Now ABC has released some details for the January 29 episode, titled "Fruit of the Poisonous Tree". Here’s what we know: Sidney is feeling none too fond of Regina lately. He would like a little payback, which involves exposing Regina as the rather corrupt city official that she is. But to do this, he asks Emma for help in uncovering the evidence to bring to the townspeople of Storybrooke. Mary Margaret and David ‘shippers will be happy to know that the pair will be continuing their “secret rendezvous while trying to figure out a way to unleash their unrequited love”. Could it be? Are the duo really hooking up behind Kathryn’s back? Finally, the Once Upon a Time fairytale world will give us more insight into King Leopold (guest star Richard Schiff), who is Snow White’s father and the Evil Queen’s husband. In the episode, he’ll come across a magic lamp (perhaps the one that eventually ended up in Mr. Gold’s pawn shop?). Naturally, a Genie pops out of the lamp and grants the King three wishes. But the old adage “be careful what you wish for” will definitely come into play. A new episode of Once Upon a Time will air on Jauary 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC. Watch a trailer for the episode here .
