10 Supporting Characters Who Steal the Show, Part 2

Entourage - Ari Gold and Turtle

I guess it's a good thing that Entourage is in fact about both Vince and his entourage, or frankly, I might be bored. Vince on his own is a little one-note and dull for me. Ari Gold however, is the obvious show-stealer. Nobody ever made profanity sound so good (and Jeremy Piven has a shelf full of awards which also confirm this). I also decided to highlight one other member of Vince's entourage, and while some might go with Drama, I think his charades are at times too over the top. I love Turtle's stupid (but smarter than you might think) innocence.

Lost - Desmond and Ben Linus

You all know that last season's "The Constant" was possibly the best episode of Lost ever, and what do you know...it was about Desmond! I've always had a soft-spot for the non Flight 815-member and his love story with Penny.

Equally fantastic is Michael Emerson's Ben Linus, who plays what I believe to be the most complex and fascinating villain on TV right now. As long as Ben sticks around, Lost is sure to remain great.

The Office - Kelly Kapoor

I know...you could choose pretty much any supporting character on The Office as a show-stealer which is why this show is so great. Trying to stick to my original rules, I went with just one. Perhaps I am partial because I know that Mindy Kaling is also a writer for the series, but Kelly Kapoor always makes me laugh, whether she is not dressing up for Ryan or talking about her Netflix queue.

Greek - Dale and Cappie

I didn't know much about Clark Duke before seeing him on Greek, but I absolutely love what he has done with his character of Dale. While he started as the Confederate-flag hanging Bible-crazy, Dale has really grown as a person and character. He has questioned his ideals, but has not necessarily thrown them out the window due to peer pressure. It's kind of like what really happens in college!

Also essential to Greek is of course Scott Michael Foster's Cappie. Cappie has got to be the smartest and wittiest slacker on TV...and he makes Greek that much more fun to be watching.

30 Rock - Kenneth and Jonathan

We could also choose pretty much any supporting character on 30 Rock (and is it me or have Frank and Toofer been sorely underused this season)...but I am going with Kenneth and Jonathan. Both of their devotion to their jobs - Kenneth as an NBC page and Jonathan to Jack Donaghy himself - is creepy, yet oh so entertaining. I specifically wanted to mention Maulik Pancholy, who plays Jonathan, because he is also a scene-stealer in Weeds. Seriously, that kid deserves his own show someday...

So all-in-all there were 17 supporting characters here. Guess I should have titled the article "10 Shows with Awesome Supporting Characters"!

I totally agree with the Lost and 30 Rock choices.
For me, Daniel Faraday from Lost - he seems like he can grow into an awesome character. I love the whole eccentric genius vibe. I also really like Juliet. There's something sexy and mysterious about her. I hope she does more in the upcoming season.
Also, in House, I will always love Wilson, although he doesn't quite steal the show from old Gregory House.

personally, i'd add Blair from gossip girl to that list to boot--she definitely steals the show from Serena, if anything i only watch it because of Blair
btw, didn't have a chance to post for your previous one, good job putting barney at the top of the list, he's surely a PRIME example for such a case... almost as good as Angelina Jolie in girl, interrupted, but that's film so a wholly other case!

I fully agree about the women of Mad Men but I would also include the character Pete Campbell from that show. I know that many people don't like him but for some reason I just find him so compelling. His and Peggy's twisted relationship is what drew me to the show at first. Jon Hamm is excellent as Don Draper of course but Vincent Kartheiser is just as - if not slightly more - talented as Hamm.

@Kimothy.I completely agree about Pete Campbell. I actually really like his character and agree that he is quite compelling. The fact that many hate him shows that he is doing a great acting job. I think people hate him so much as he represents a side of many people that we just don't want to admit we have.I mean, who doesn't aspire to climb the ranks of their profession? Pete may take it a step too far sometimes, but Don Draper isn't exactly squeaky clean either...Great comments!

Yes to Everything! But especially Kelly. Everything about The Office is wonderful, but Kelly ices the cake each week. Amazing.
As for LOST, Rose has always been my favorite character. I miss her. :(
Dale and Ashleigh are my favorite part of Greek. I was so glad with the election results. Just wondering, does Cappie really count as a supporting character?
30 Rock: What about Grizz and Dot Com? You can't forget them...
I wish that the list could be longer. If it could, then Smash's Mama from FNL, Ellison from T:tSCC, Amanda from Ugly Betty, Marco from Privileged, and Noser from The Middleman would all need to be added.
Thanks! :D
