Following the scandalous rumor that The Real Housewives of New Jersey's Danielle Staub does not have an exactly pristine, crime-free past, the newly singer mother says the rumors brought back to life by an out-of-print book were just blown out of proportion.
Speaking at NBC's Today, Danielle said the truth is out there and she will only talk about it when the time is right. In an episode of the Bravo reality show, Danielle's past was dug up during a spa party (with free Botox injections) where fellow Jersey housewife Dina Manzo talked about Danielle's sexual history.
"I can only touch on it. I can just say, um, it's out there, and it will be addressed, and I will definitely touch on all the subjects that are crucially in need of touching on at the time, when the time is right and the platform is correct.," she said. "Everybody has somebody in their past or present or that would like to say and embellish nasty things about them."
Danielle was referring to stories revealed in the crime book Cop Without a Badge, which detailed felon-turned-informant Kevin Maher and his adventures with "coke whore" and stripper Beverly Merrill, whose mug shot eerily resembled modern day Danielle, as first reported by the New Jersey Star-Ledger. According to the book, Merrill was involved in helping her boyfriend in kidnapping and torture schemes.
In the book, the description of Merrill is not the most flattering. "This is a good person. She has no morals, but she's a good person."
In something less distressing, Danielle says she loves the attention from Real Housewives of New Jersey fans.
"For me it's a comfort. It's almost like my family's happy to see me coming home for the picnic. For me it's almost like people are embracing me, and I'm sort of not used to that, so it's really a good feeling."
