The Big Bang Theory: Season 3, Episode 4 "The Pirate Solution" Review - Featured

I think that last night's episode of The Big Bang Theory was my favorite of Season 4 thus far. They had me at "Turbriskafil" (turkey stuffed with a brisket stuffed with gefilte fish), but here's some of the other reasons why:

I know I've mentioned this time and again...but yay for way more Raj (and Wolowitz)! I love that this was basically a Raj episode. I don't think we've ever seen Raj speak this much or show that much personality! We also were afforded the opportunity to witness a more extended Raj/Sheldon interaction; normally Raj is paired with Howard, so this was a pleasant change. Similarly, this left Howard free to bother Penny and Leonard - another fun mix-up in the dynamic.

In "The Pirate Solution", we learn that Raj has been doing little more at work than checking his email, updating his facebook status and messing up Wikipedia entries and thus will soon be out of a job. To avoid deportation, he needs to find himself a new one. Since his first attempt at finding a new job at the university fails miserably - all was going well until Raj is introduced to a potential female coworker at which point he nervously downs some alcohol (so as to be able to speak with her, a running BBT joke...) and promptly blows things - Raj is forced to accept a position working for Sheldon. Emphasis is on the for.

Enter one hilarious montage set to the tone of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" (which in a rare occurrence, has nothing to do with sports), an ongoing semantics battle on whether Raj is working "with" or "for" Sheldon, a rare admission of error/apology from Sheldon followed by the return of "Eye of the Tiger" and a slo-mo walk, and well, I just thought that this episode was really on.

Some of my favorite lines:

Leonard on celebrating Columbis Day: "We're watching Goonies, Gremlins and Young Sherlock Holmes. They're all written by Chris Columbus."

"Forgive me. I'm not adept at reading facial cues. You're either sad or nauseated." - Sheldon to Raj in his normal, pitch perfect delivery

"Hey want to get a little crazy? Let's slide over to Sheldon's spot and make out." - Penny

"Maybe all of our periods will synchronize." - Wolowitz upon inserting himself into Sheldon and Penny's alone time with SATC on the TV in the background

"Normally on Sundays I go with Raj to scam on hippie chicks at the Farmer's Market" - Wolowitz on why he's making breakfast at Leonard's

What did you think of this week's Big Bang Theory?

Loved it, as usual...I enjoyed the montage also...all the characters are great, but Leonard, Raj, and Wolowitz are hillarious...the 'facial cues' and 'synchronous periods' lines were my faves of this epi.

Penny: (from outside the door) "Why doesn't he just get another job?"Howard: (after Raj whispers in his ear) "What are you asking me for? I don't know if you can talk now or not." Raj: "I don't want to go back to India. It's hot and loud and there's so many people! You have no idea, they're everywhere." The montage was glorious, but I wonder if this new Sheldon and Raj thing will stick...
