His TV appearances have been limited to "The Today Show" and restaurant partner Mario Batali's various shows, but Joe Bastianich issn't apprehensive about judging FOX's "MasterChef" with Gordon Ramsay and the country's youngest four-star chef, Graham Elliot Bowles.
"They were looking in the world of food professionals," he tells Zap2it. "They wanted people who were camera-ready and are not chefs. It's a pretty small world."
Bastianich grew up in the restaurant business, then tried Wall Street -- "It was less about wanting to work on Wall Street and more about an acute fear of poverty." -- before he opened his first restaurant with his mom.
"On this [Gordon] was so adamant about keeping it real," Bastianich says of "MasterChef." "I understood that, and about keeping the timing up. It shows in the production."
