The new season of The Bachelorette got off to a somewhat modest start Monday. Jillian Harris, who came in third place on The Bachelor 13, came face-to-face with her 30 suitors and, by the end of the two-hour premiere, narrowed down the field to 20. For some reason, I had such high hopes for this season for the sole reason that Jillian, who has such a jolly personality, is the new bachelorette looking for love. But seeing her choices so far, it's looking a bit murky, even with her beaming personality.
On print, Jillian's suitors appeared to be a good mix - guys from varied backgrounds, interests and professions. Seeing them on TV, however, was different. The season opener on The Bachelorette was supposed to be all about first impressions but not a lot of those guys won me over. Sure, there were a few standouts: David, the guy who choked up, Wes, the guy who serenaded Jillian with a song, Argentinean-born Juan, Kiptyn, the ketchup only guy, and Jake, the pilot who seems to be everyone's early favorite. But the rest of the men failed to impress.
