The Barney-Robin relationship was something that was good in theory but worked out poorly -- both laugh-wise and for the characters. But without that relationship we wouldn't have gotten this very fun episode. HIMYM excels at bringing together previous moments (both from other episodes and this one) and presenting a new take on them, and the revelation in "Of Course" that Robin has actually been in mourning since her break-up with Barney was very well done. The overall structure of the episode was excellent, from the book-ending jump into the river to the reveal that Robin encouraged Anita to start dating Barney. I loved how we saw each of the male characters come to the exact same realization... followed by guilt over their participation in Marshall's extremely catchy ditty, "Bang, bang... bang, bang... bang, bang, bangity bang."
The dating concept satirized this week was an overdue spoof of such dating guide books as The Rules, and I greatly prefer the matter-of-fact title of How I Met's fictional version, "Of Course You're Still Single, Take a Look at Yourself You Dumb Slut." Jennifer Lopez did an decent job as the book's author, Anita. It was a little predictable that Barney would turn Anita's rules back on her, but enjoyable nonetheless. My favorite Anita moment had nothing to do with Lopez at all -- it was the sly nod to the drinking game in the episode "Jenkins" as Robin said "But, um," in her interview with Anita.
