I had a chance to take an early look at the season 6 premiere episode of THE CLOSER, ââ¬ÅThe Big Bang,ââ¬Â and the new season finds Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson and the rest of the Major Crimes Division in total chaos as they move into their new high-tech offices. From the interview rooms to the fancy new murder board, nothing is working the way it should be. Poor Commander Taylor hasn't even been assigned an office in the new building and is camping out in a conference room. Brenda is not happy and not even her huge stash of mini candy bars is helping.
In the middle of all this confusion, Brenda's squad is investigating the murder of a man shot to death while looking at the stars from the roof of his apartment. They suspect his death might have something to do with the woman he's having an affair with and they focus their attention on her husband.
There's also a development at the end of the episode that involves Assistant Chief Pope possibly getting a new job. This means someone in the department could be promoted, potentially shaking things up. I think this will be a major storyline that will continue during the rest of the season.
Overall, I think the season premiere of The Closer is a solid episode that sets up some interesting changes for season six. It was pretty funny to see Brenda, who normally outsmarts everyone, thrown off her game by the new building (Lawyer to Brenda: You're supposed to be one the greatest liars of all time and that's the best you've got? Really?Â). In true Brenda style, she ends up making the building adjust to her, rather than the other way around. As amusing as it was in this first episode, the new set gives the show a whole new feel, and I don't know if I like it. I missed their old offices, which, in all their institutional glory, felt familiar after being home to the squad for the past five seasons. It was very strange, and I think I'm going to have as hard a time as Brenda adjusting.
