Parting Thoughts on a Pretty Chuckin' Awesome Finale - Featured

Spoilers included for Chuck vs. the Ring

Until this season, I never quite understood rabid TV fans and their "Save this Show" campaigns. Save Jericho? Save Moonlight? Never cared. Even near the beginning of this season of Chuck, while I was enjoying the show...I don't think I would have gone to any extra effort to ensure that it stuck around.

Somewhere in the middle of the second season, Chuck evolved from a good show...into a great one (yes, I said great). Many people, I think, initially approached the show with skepticism because it was difficult to take a "spy comedy" seriously. But, after a little time, Chuck has found this uniquely perfect balance between comedy and drama that isn't present in any other show on TV (for me, the closest comparison is Scrubs a few seasons back when it wasn't yet tired). The show is smart, hilarious, heartwarming and all around feel-good. And...especially with these last 2 episodes of the season (and it's a toss up which one I liked more)...the show has demonstrated that it still has tons of room to grow, which is why us crazy fans are buying Subway subs en masse and tweeting up a storm (seriously, #savechuck has been a top Twitter trend all day).

Chuck's creator warned us in an interview that we'd set our living rooms on fire if "Chuck vs. the Ring" ends up being the show's series finale. While I'd be heartbroken if the show doesn't get renewed, I actually have seen far more infuriating series-ending cliffhangers. I feel like the show has been foreshadowing this change (which is both a shift and a return to the status quo all at once) for quite some time; Chuck has finally realized his destiny - having the Intersect in his head is no longer a burden, but his purpose. Tack on a little "kung fu" and the promise of a larger scale enemy and you have the perfect set up for Season 3...or if this is (god forbid) the series finale...at least the certainty that Chuck's life now contains some direction.

But...don't think I'm resolved to the fact that Chuck isn't getting renewed. I really have good feelings and high hopes, so let's conclude with some happy thoughts from tonight's episode (since Chuck as a show just...makes me happy).

Personally, I thought that every Jeffster moment stole the show. The Mr. Roboto performance was nothing short of brilliant. Furthermore, the episode was loaded with great one-liners (per usual), including:

-A real shotgun wedding! Just think...that terrible pun is the last thing you'll ever hear! - Roark

-Why are you letting Sam Kinison and an Indian lesbian ruin your wedding? - Dr. Awesome

-Not the flowers! - Chuck

-Oh, Chuck me! - Casey

What were your favorite moments/scenes from tonight's episode?

Also...Should the show be renewed...what do you think of the big set up for next season?

Yeah I loved it too, it was frackin' Awesome excuse the pun I thought I'd never use describing this show. And it is by far the best season finale I have seen in a really long time. I love the one liner from Casey (Adam Baldwin no matter on which show he's on Chuck, Firefly, etc. he always gets the best one liners and delivers them like a master). I also liked the one liner Chuck gave at the end, "Guys I know Kung-Fu!" Matrix inspired maybe. I personaly think that Chuck should get a third season just on this episode alone, it had everything. Except a cheesy pet placement.

What a episode to end things with for this 2nd season, everyone had a role and what a twist at the end. Also i agree completely about Casey having some great one liners the " clashes with the bunting " had me laughing out loud and the final "chuck me" was a moment of genius. This episode was everything the show is funny, dramatic and intensely watchable with a strong story which just draws you back in. I think we all knew it was never going to be the fairy tale ending but for me setting up the new enemy, Chuck losing a friend, and the decision to step back into the world where no matter how much good he does there he feels out of place is just spectacular. As for favorite moments well like most people the Mr Roboto dance moment was great but for me the ending with Casey saying you called was too funny. Also the end where Chuck takes up the intersect again after watching his friend die was a really hitting moment. As i don't think we have seen in the show anyone really close to Chuck die before certainly not infront of him. To see him still choose to do what he does even after seeing the cost is a really good moment as far as i am concerned.I am really hoping that NBC gives it another season to flesh out and let us all watch something that deserves to be on the air.

Anyway, was I the only one to notice the "to be continued" at the end of the episode?Don't you think that implies something?

great episode. only worry is chuck being a nerd going on these missions was what made the show great. this wont be the case any more. i can see the next series, being the power going to chucks head. cant see this being good so i pray this is not the case.

I agree with kevinbuckleyie, the whole Matrix downloady thing where he can do anything is cool, but it can ruin the show if they don't maintain his quirky-nerd-who-doesn't-really-know-what-he's-doing-here vibe. if he just becomes a super spy i don't see the show being as entertaining.other than that, amazing episode! amazing show! can't wait for season 3 (CBS willing).I'm curious though, if the sow continues, will Chuck have to go back to the BuyMore? and what about Morgan, is his character done?

RachelL, I totally understand when you say you weren't into the save-shows thing! Glad though you changed your mind, Chuck deserves to be saved!I think this was (with the precedent) one of the best episodes ever.Hopefully they'll give the show the chance to continue on the 3rd season! Besides, if they don't the "to be continued" would be a total bitchy thing to do to us, deep fans of Agent Carmichael. It might not be the 8th wonder, but it certainly is a great show. Let's cross fingers!
=)

Jeffster take on Mr. Roboto was one of the greatest feats of alternative music I've ever heard. It was hilarious. I love synthesizers.
I was skeptical about making Chuck all superpowered while it was happening but the whole "Guys I know Kung Fu" line showed me that it was just another good thing for the show. Especially if its involuntary which would add to the comedy.
Good season finale. Pretty big cliffhanger though. The back plot got tied together nicely. (We finally get the reason why Bryce sent Chuck the intersect.)
I loved how Casey gave Chuck his number and then proceeded to threaten him. Classic Casey.

Well i think one thing they can do about the new way the intersect works, is that it may have a fatal flaw. Something that yes does give Chuck knowledge on how to fight but at a price as Bryce does mention when talking to Orion how he did not want to know what the changes in it did. So maybe yeah Chuck is a super spy, and can do all the things he saw Bryce and Sarah do but it maybe that now it really messes his mind up, and who knows what his cover will be now and wil his dad stick around? Also will Sarah still want to be with him if he changes? So much to look forward too.

I'm not a huge fan of subways they're ok but not amazing like every1 makes them out to be, and I went and bought 1 even though me buying 1 won't count seeings as I live in the UK, but I bought 1 for Chuck regardless :D

Gota say Chuck knowing Kung-Fu is abit over the top, he loses some of his chuckness charm by being able to defend himself, and does this mean hes gona end up going back to the buy more? :(

To "ShaunP"Firstly, I'd just like to say, that Zach himself came to Birmingham (I think, not sure if he went to other places too) and brought 600 people with him to buy subways. It was amazing and he's so brilliant with his fans. So I think even your purchase may have helped :)Secondly, we still can't be 100% on how the new intersect works. Little information was given out about it. The show has to have some mystery to it. So Chuck knows Kung-Fu, but for how long? Will it stick in his brain? Or will it fade away, just for him to be able to use a katana like a pro? To be honest, I'm extremely excited to see where they'll go with this.I'm happy to say, I don't think Chuck will ever be a Bryce Larkin. That cool, effortless spy look. (I didn't like Bryce, but he did the spy thing well.) Because after two seasons of being shot at, threatened and almost tortured, he still hasn't "got used to it". He still freaks out at the littlest things. Which is adorable, so I don't think we have to worry about Chuck changing. And Thirdly, I kinda hope he'll go back to the buy more. The show won't feel right without it. Or at least, SOMEONE go back to the buy more.
Have to say, amazing finale though. Chuck always has me smiling. Although at one point I did hit my desk when Sarah was about to tell Chuck what she wants, then Chucks bloody dad interupted. Just once, on these shows, can't the person who's about to give a heart-warming speech just go, "Hold the hell up, let me say this, THEN you can say whatever important thing you need to say."
RENEW CHUCKLES <3

I'm surprised no one else on here has commented on the fact that a fulcrum (or whoever they are) agent dragged Bryce out of the room and got away at the end of the episode.
Anyone else notice that Bryce died with his eyes open...
Wouldn't be the first time he's been brought back from the dead.

was i the only one to notice that in all the awesomeness that was this show, and the ending specifically, no one checked to see if brice was dead, and that his eyes stayed open when chuck uploaded the intersect, he has been "shot and killed" before, just saying bryce is the new bad guy,....hey it could happen.

Bryce's death was pretty pathetic though really.
I mean he got shot in the hip and the actor playing him has no idea how to die. He just tilted his head to the side.
What kind of mega-fbi agent dies from a shot to the hip.
Only real complaint worth making about the finale.

I hope it ends, there isn't any other show like Chuck on TV because its a dumb, underdeveloped idea. The concept would've worked great for say... a a kids cartoon (c'mon comedy-spy, one-liners, cheap feel-good moments, 2-dimensional characters?) but my god, a whole decently funded live-action?
I'm glad this season's finale concluded the Fulcrum arc so we could all move on without having our curiosity tug at our brains.
More excited to see the cast of Chuck start a different project, they deserve something better to put their efforts into.

first of all i didnt get to finish reading all the comments so sorry if someone already said this, but the fact that chuck knows kung fu made me remember one of jackie chans movies(the tuxedo). which by the way had a very similar doesn't-really-know-what-he's-doing-here vibe and still manage to keep the hole thing together.

I just watched this again and its still cool and funny and to the person who says its dumb, well ok but funny how so many people are willing to do something to get it back then.I liked Bryce he was a cool character, he always got cool enterances and exists the slow motion walking in or out always cracked me up.I actually think he got shot in the gut not the hip and he probably dies of internal bleeding.Interesting point about his eyes being open would be cool if they could bring Bryce back in some way.

In my opinion, Chuck has jumped the shark. From the beginning Chuck as a charictor has been the avarage joe fumbling his way through a world he wasnt familar with. While he may still not have a clue on how to handle himself as a spy, will he still be loved as a unstopible fighting machine? Dont get me wrong, i would love to see a 3rd season but im not holding my breath that it will be the Chuck we know and love.

I'm a 'lil late on the Chuck boat. But I did however watch the two seasons in three days and I fell in love! I cannot wait for season three and if there isn't then I'll be very disapppointed especially after there was a "to be continued" at the end!
