Much Softer 'Bones' in the Finale

After confirming that the heavily anticipated romp will finally materialize in the May 14 finale of Bones, Emily Deschanel, the star of the hit Fox procedural, tells Zap2it that the final episode of the season will see a very different character from the typical Bones that she plays.

"You'll see a [much] softer Brennan," she says. "I don't know if it's very soft, but Brennan, you see her in a different situation. There was an episode in the season where we went undercover in the circus, and this is similar in that you get to see these characters in a totally different environment at times, and so you see a different side of the character."

Deschanel, 32, hints that this change might have something to do with Bones' interpersonal skills, which she admits are less than stellar.

"We have an episode 'The Bones that Foam.' You see Brennan asks Sweets [John Francis Daley] to help her interact with humans, and she admits that s he's not good at it. And he tries to teach her what different expressions look like: what happiness looks like, sadness. And she's just, you know, she kind of fails at it."

Bones has, however, "warmed up a lot," if Deschanel were to be asked. And while if she has a long way to go in terms of dealing with people, she has definitely made some progress. "And I think that she's opened up with her emotions. She's learned to interact with people a little bit."

In much funnier news, the Bones finale will also include an appearance from one of the most notorious babies in television land - Stewie from Family Guy. Deschanel said the crossover idea was "brilliant" and went on to explain that Stewie is actually a product of Booth's (David Boreanaz) hallucination when Brennan pops the idea of having a child together.

"The way it's done is to be believable. I mean, if you're going to see a hallucination, it might as well -- it could be a cartoon as easily as it could be another human being, so I think it's done very well."
