Harold Perrineau on His Lost Exit Part Deux: "Not Cool"

Harold Perrineau sat down with TV Guide and spoke frankly about some of his feelings regarding his return (and dramatic departure last night - again) from Lost.

Somewhat surprisingly, Perrineau had quite a few negative things to say. For one, he said that he had no idea he was being brought back only to be killed off (though in the land of Lost, is that honestly so surprising) and found that to be "not cool".

Perrineau also is generally disappointed about the outcome of the Michael/Walt story line and goes so far as to suggest that "there all these questions about how they [Lost] respond to black people on the show".

I would have to say, and for the record I am white, he pretty much nails it. I don't think what he is saying is going to win him any pats on the back, but it is nice to have and actor be this honest. The storyline really makes little to no sense, the death meaningless. Nearly all deaths up until this point, and I do say nearly not all, have come after the character comes to peace with themselves or some aspect of their lives. I didn't feel that anything was accomplished from this save as the actor himself says LOST fans got their pound of flesh, except it really was more like a half pound.

The point is he gave himself as retribution for what he did before, it was the only way for him to die (which a you'll remember is what he wanted) jack's dad seems to pop up whenever someone is getting what they deserve lately so hoping to see more of him next season.

i think we will.my tough is that jack's dad is the master mind behind everything. And the whole show is really mainly about jack, kate, claire, and john locke n im sticking to dat.But you never know i might be wrong.I really dont think micheal getting killed off the island was racist at all.But the should had fixed his relationship with his son.And have a another black character or at least bring back mr ecko his a good actor. And who ever has something negative to say about my comment >>>>F.A.H. Damn... it's been so long since I've seen honesty like this from an actor. I actually think Harold has a point. It happens on British TV too. It's a shame there aren't any more positive black characters in shows like Lost.Ah well, maybe Walt will pass on and his spirit will be reunited with Michael's on the island and they will be the guardian angels of this secret mystical island.

Has everyone forgotten the sweet black lady that had cancer??? She is still alive...and guess what.....she is black!! I wish Michael would have never come back.....he was a d***. I do feel sorry for Walt but I think that people like Sayid and Desmond will tell Walt what a hero Michael turned out to be. Where I am still lost is to Johns name in the flash forward!! I cant wait until nest season!

You're right! Knowing Lost's history, he shouldn't have been that surprised.

I don't think anyone could say whether or not anyone on a television show is racist, or making decisions in a racist fashion. We don't know them, and we've never sat in on a single meeting or interaction. If I were to allege sexism in a given environment, I would certainly make a point of providing numerous clear examples to demonstrate that it wasn't a mere slur.
His character had one mantra: "He's my son." As a parent, I respect a parent's desire to be a good one. However, as any ordinary adult I found the character's complete lack of ability to deal socially with anyone else absolutely monotonous. I don't think it was the actor's fault; I think he's an exceptional actor and I have for some time. However, he never really developed beyond that mantra. As a result, the child's character never got a chance to develop in the context of that plotline either. Like many annoying parents out there, he was so busy screaming to the heavens that he had a child and had to protect it that he never really got down to the business of doing the job well. It was old quite a while ago.
