I actually liked the way they killed sun and jin, it was tragically poetic for them to travel space and time to find each other and then jin ends up choosing to die by his wifes side instead of saving himself. But dont worry, it will all work out well in the end. (stop reading if you dont want to hear my theory, which I think is probably what is going to happen)
The whole reason the flash sideways are there and how in them everyone is realigning with the people they love and lost on the island is because in the end the flash sideways will be the only actual timeline that remains. Right now there are two timelines occupying the same space, as that is what happend when they moved the island. In the end they will somehow move or destroy the island out of that timeline(remember in the season premiere they showed the island sunk at the bottom of the ocean) which leaves the sideways as the only timeline existing. All the good things that happend and the relationships they made on the island are being recreated in the flash sideways. Locke will walk again(like on the island) just Jack will be the one who does it. Sawyer will find Juliet again and Jack will find Kate again, remember, Sawyer in looking for Anthony Cooper, who Jack just found. Sawyer will probably be running down a lead to find Jack Shepard, go to his previous house where he will meet Jack's ex-wife who will be Juliet. Sawyer and Kate will somehow be teamed up as a 'you help me find Anthony Cooper I'll help you will the cop's' and that is how Kate will find jack. Penny and Desmond already found each other, Hurley and Libby, Sun and Jin are having a baby, Locke and Ben are once again intellectual friends/rivals, ben was able to redeem himself with alex and give her a good life, and I guarantee since Desmond has met Claire and Charlie, through him Claire and Charlie will meet each other. As they said there will be things let open to theorize about, I am guessing that the island will be blown up or something and will disapper and will not be shown again and then they will continue on with the flashsideways, which will leave everyone to wonder what happen to the island, but also with a sense of happily ever after as everyone in the sideways has gotten where they wanted and needed to be in the end. Again, just my theory, may not happen that way but thats my take on it. So its sad but not a big deal that Jin and Sun died. Oh, and also as Captains can marry people I would not be surprised if Frank Lepidus shows up as the person who marries Jin and Sun as he has been Sun's unoffical bodyguard for the better part of this season.

I like this theory! And maybe...the only way to switch over will be by dying in the island timeline? So, mission already accomplished for half of the people. Both timelines exist until everyone is dead in one? Would also explain why "Locke" needed everyone to be dead to be able to "leave".
