NBC has found the male lead for its J.J. Abrams pilot "Undercovers" in the form of former "Soul Food" star Boris Kodjoe.
Kodjoe, who starred in the Bruce Willis movie "Surrogates" earlier this year, will play one half of a married couple who work together as spies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. If the show gets picked up, he would become one of only a handful of African-American actors with a lead role on a network series.
The "Undercovers" cast also includes Gerald McRaney, who was cast earlier in the week as the couple's supervisor at the CIA.
Kodjoe played Damon Carter on Showtime's "Soul Food" and also starred in the UPN series "Second Time Around" (with his real-life wife, Nicole Ari Parker). His credits also include "Madea's Family Reunion," "Love & Basketball" and the upcoming "Resident Evil: Afterlife."
Abrams co-wrote "Undercovers" with Josh Reims and may direct the pilot.
