Treme: "Smoke My Peace Pipe" Review Episode 7

This sad but beautiful episode brought us the answers we've been waiting all season for about the whereabouts of David "Daymo" Brooks. While we haven't always been as emotionally invested in this mystery as the writers would have liked, Khandi Alexander's fantastic acting in this episode really brought it home, giving us a glimpse of the pain and catharsis LaDonna is experiencing knowing the true fate of her brother. John Goodman and Clarke Peters also acted their asses off this week, giving us an episode that showed us what happens when frustration bubbles over into rage.

In general, David Simon is at his most comfortable portraying human drama on a large scale. His manner of jumping rapidly from one scene to the next can make it difficult for his characters to explore emotional highs and lows. No sooner do we see a tear slip down Antoine's cheek as he mourns the death of his mentor, or watched Janette struggle with the decision to close her restaurant, that we're moving to the next setup with little time to really absorb it.
