Character actor Brian Cox is the latest name to join the cast of 'The Big C,' starring Oscar-nominated actress Laura Linney ('You Can Count on Me,' 'The Savages') as a high school teacher who learns she has terminal cancer.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cox will play Linney's father in an unspecified number of episodes.
'The Big C' premieres Aug. 16 on Showtime.
This is the second major star to join the cast this week. As previously reported, 'Wire' alum Idris Elba will play a painter who becomes involved with Linney's character. Elba has reportedly signed on for at least four episdes.
Oliver Platt and Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe round out the cast.
Cox is a familiar face to fans of 'Deadwood,' on which he played Jack Langrishe, and NBC's short-lived series 'Kings.' He was also a bad guy in two 'Bourne' movies, as well as a villain in the second 'X-Men' movie, 'X2.'
