Oh, to be filthy stinking rich and thenâ¦lose it all. If there was an overall theme to the third season of the wonderfully sordid and complex Damages, it would be something like "the obsession with wealth." Or maybe "the corruption of the weak." Or "peoplewhofindouttoolatethatambitionruinslove." Yes, there were a bunch of themes this season about the darkening of the human soul, the importance of family and the insurmountable regrets of the hard-edged careerist, but there since the main plot involved Patty (Glenn Close) and Tom (Tate Donovan) trying to prove that the fraudulent Tobin clan were secretly hiding millions of dollars for themselves, we got to see a lot of panic from rich white folks who would literally kill in order to not become *gasp* middle-class white folks.
