NBC Releases Midseason Schedule

...And if possible, it looks lamer than NBC's Fall Schedule.

The schedule will be bloated with reality series, beginning with 2 new ones airing on Mondays: Superstars of Dance (described as a professional dancing competition and what I can only assume will be a failed NBC attempt to leech onto ABC's Dancing with the Stars audience) and Momma's Boys.

Tuesdays will consist of another season of Biggest Loser and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit at 10PM.

Wednesdays: Knight Rider is staying put at 8, followed by SVU reruns at 9 (until February when Life returns) and the original Law & Order at 10.

The Thursday night comedy lineup (and ER) will remain unchanged.

Fridays will see another Howie Mandel show at 8 - this one called Howie Do It, a hidden camera show (groan). I am most excited for the NBC return of Friday Night Lights at 9PM. Dateline will air in the 10PM slot.

ugh and they keep friday night lights in a bad timeslot. I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard and briefly read, knight rider doesn't deserve a plum wed timeslot. Honestly, after all the angst before fnl's season started, which was sort of resolved w/ the network's supposed backing, they are not really doing too much for the show. Do they expect it to miraculously get more viewers by leaving it in the same time-slot? NBC's thinking just does not make sense to me...
and i agree w/ you about the reality shows (groan).

superstars of dance? Anyone who watches that show sould be ashamed of themselves. I do not see any reason to watch the original, b list stars learning the tango, I ever got why that is even a show and why people even watch that to begin with. Now NBC has a ripoff of it. Great. I guess anything to keep Dustin Diamond and Danny Bonaduchi employeed, cause you know those are the kinds of quote unquote star they are gonna get. This is the crap you got rid of Scrubs for? NBC should be ashamed of themselves.

And another thing, why do people still support all these stupid reality shows? Great shows like pushing daisies and chuck are is perpetual danger of being canceled. And why? because we need the sixth version of americas next top model? We get it hot chicks cat fight and get their picture taken, please give me more of that. Demand more from these tv networks, or the four and fifth generations of these regurgitated reality show concepts are what they are going to give you.

Wow... that's all I can say. Personally NBC has turned me off from reality tv shows, they seem to be obsessed with them these last 2 yrs. honestly I don't see why a reality show should go any more the 2 SEASONS MAX, because after that it becomes very repetitive. I would think they would shift gear to more sci-fi, comedy or drama shows that seem to be popular these days, but I guess that i am just one of the few who believe that programs should consistently be producing new material and not milking an idea until everyone hates it and them move on...
P.s. I am talking about survivor. :P

Unfortunately these days, television production is less about originality and daring than it is about acquiring the most amount of money while spending the least amount of money. This is done by creating shows that are cheap to produce and create high revenue: the reality show. Because the contestants are non-professionals, they don't have to be paid star salaries or get star perks. A writing staff is also unnecessary,as are extras, stunt people, stand-ins,hairstylists,make-up artists, wardrobe, etc.,all of which factor into the budget of a scripted television series. The reality show is the financial answer to all of that and,as you can see by the abundance of these shows on the air, the networks have hit the jackpot. Millions of people watch them, ad agencies pay the networks premium fees for premium air time for their client's products, network executives receive bonuses (and kudos for their "genius"),and shareholders get huge returns on their investment. In the meantime, the market for scripted television seems to be getting smaller and smaller, and what does make it to the air is either remake/updates (Bionic Woman,Knight Rider), spin-offs (CSI:,L&O),movie to TV treatments (Sarah Connor Chronicles), or (sigh) shows that make you just give up hope for the medium ('Til Death, anyone?). The demand for industry professionals decreases with the increase of reality shows driving them to take the next logical step:film work. This is the unfortunate reality (no pun intended) of the state of television right now. And no matter how many good ideas are presented to network executives,it'll always be the bottom line that rules, mediocrity will slowly become the standard, and good programs and their audiences will be the ones who will suffer.

I find it highly irritating that so many quality shows are cancelled and replaced with bottom of the barrell reality tv garbage. It seems to me that its another last ditch attempt to get viewers and make some money, and that there don't care about whether or not their making quality tv. NBC isn't alone in this, in fact I am still sore about the cancellation of Veronica Mars (yes its been years) while that stupid pussycat doll show got another season. Not to mention last years cancellation of a gem, Women's Murder Club. And what is the result of all this... possibly the most unexciting line up you could ever have. To be honest though, what can we expect?
