Note to ABC: Please Do NOT Turn Scrubs into ER

Bill Lawrence, Scrubs creator, has been doing a lot of interviews lately. Recently, he spoke frankly about his disappointment over the show's sendoff from NBC.

In a new interview, Bill Lawrence talks more about what's in store for those 18 final episodes and if those 18 episodes are even the final ones. What?!

Apparently, though both Bill Lawrence and Zach Braff are finished with Scrubs when this next season concludes, a part of the contract with ABC is that should they desire to, the show can continue on without them. Furthermore, the show would proceed much like ER has, but in comedy form - rotate out all of the older castmembers and replace them with newer, younger ones.

Personally, I would not be in favor of this idea. I think there's too much danger in destroying what would be a generally awesome legacy left by the show. What do you all think?

Please no. I will hate scrubs if it turned out that way. I would rather see it go out with a bang and a huzzah with the final season. The old characters are what made the show. They are the roots of the show. So please ABC don't do the ER thing. (can't stand ER anyways).

They must be crazy to think that the show would be in any way better without the original cast! I thought Scrubs could become a classic but if they replace all the good, classic characters then that definately won't happen. I also don't think that the show should end yet, they should stretch it out to at least 10 seasons like any good sitcom has. Scrubs has become a huge favourite for a large audience and to stop it's production after just 6 or 7 seasons would be dreadful. I say they should keep Scrubs exactly the way it is!

The ER thing should stay an NBC thing. With the Scrubs move to ABC, I would be very dissappointed if they did that, especially since the show is in JD's head. It just wouldn't work without him.

I was of the opinion that Scrubs was J.D's diary entries or something along those lines. No J.D means no scrubs.... as much as i am in love with the show.

This cant happen. I love scrubs but i really think next season should be its last, they should tie it all together so it ends as one of the best shows on tv. I dont have a clue how or why they think they can carry it on without J.D or any of the origional cast, if it becomes confirmed as returning for more (without bill and zach) we should start a massive petition to prevent the show from becoming ruined.

There's a phrase for the format of ER, for bringing in an ever-rotating cast of characters and occasionally bringing back the originals: SOAP OPERA.
A well-written story has a beginning and an ending, both frequently just as difficult to write. To turn this into a franchise, a soap opera, would be to ultimately reduce the quality of the work itself. That said, I'm confused. Was anyone forced at gunpoint to agree to it? Do these people need the paycheck as much as the rest of us, and are they simply doing their jobs in order to put food on the table and gas in the car (not in that order anymore)? Maybe. I suspect some of the main actors, the creator and some of the crew can choose artistic integrity and close up shop. However, I strongly suspect that a majority of the people actually working on the show just plain need the job.
As for the idea of the cast being done learning lessons because they're in their 30's, that's the most juvenile idea I've heard lately. It's indicative of our R-rated soap-operas-for-teens programming on some channels. No more lessons after 30, because now they're grown-ups? NO, that's when we make some of our best mistakes while playing for the highest stakes.
I hope they don't franchise it. I also hope that someone everyone who opts for artistic integrity can afford it. :)

Without Zack, Scrubs wouldnt be much, although id like to see it switch over to Turk as the main character, tutoring a new intern or something, maybe J.D could come back for 1 or 2 episodes, that'd be cool, but at the moment, as there is no official statement, Id hate to see them wipe out the current characters and bring new ones in, keep the show as it is or give it its last season.

I must say this is a ridiclious idea Bill Lawrence has had, i completly agree with Strayheartedfool and iGavin. The show is amazing and changing the cast would be ridiclious because each actor plays their character in a very unique way which we have all come to love, examples; Dr. Cox's rants are legendary and can only be pulled off by John C. McGinley. The Janitor is a nut case and any time you look at his eyes you can tell he's thinking of way to get at JD, you can't bring in some young punk and tell him to do that, it comes with years of experience and that that look that Neil Flynn has. Bob Kellso always cracks me up when he says 'bastards', only Ken Jenkins can pull of being a cold hearted bastard. I could go on for every cast member, let ABC have the show for the last eppisodes but end it with a bang, tie up all the queries people of had like the janitors real name and let scrubs become a comedy that people can look back on and say every series is brilliant. Scrubs is a classic, i challenge anyone to watch an eppisode and not laugh at some point.
"Bottom Line" Finish it well and give the show a send off everyone will remeber.

iGavin, you're an idiot. Any good sitcom has 10 seasons, really? How can you be so stupid? There are a lot of amazing shows that don't even have a whole season. And what, they should just go a few extra years with something they may or may not be sick of making? Just for you? So you can have a nice even number and be satisfied that it is a good sitcom? You make me puke. Idiot.
